I'm going to be a senior in the fall and I have no idea what colleges to apply to. I want to pursue a career in occupational therapy and am thinking of majoring in psych as an undergrad.

My weighted average for freshman through junior year is a 4.3 and unweighted 3.8. I take all honors and AP courses (with the exception of religion which is required at my school) and by the end on senior year will have taken 8 APs.

I've been on newspaper for 3 years, as well as three other clubs. I have two years of JV volleyball and one year of Varsity Track. I am in National Honor Society as well.

I also have a lot of volunteer work, at least 500 hours, mainly from children's organizations (Boys and Girls Club, other summer camps, tutoring, etc.)

My SAT and SAT II scores are not great, my super score is: Reading 710, Math 730, and Writing 690 (2130)
SAT IIs were dreadful: Lit 630, Math Level 2- 640, and US History 690.

I would really like to earn a pretty good scholarship at a pretty decent college, I'm not saying Harvard or Yale, just not a little community college. Thanks so much!

TOSU has a top-notch Psych Dept., Psychology Program at Ohio State is ranked on par with Northwestern, Carnegie Mellon, Cornell, and Columbia based on USNWR. And I believe your SAT score is certainly enough to quality for the “National Buckeye Scholarship” for OOS students.

What state do you live in?
Do you have preference for big vs small schools? Location? rural vs urban?
Most schools will have decent psych departments since its such a common major.

^^ Sparkeye is citing a graduate program ranking.
In psychology research output, all these schools may be about equal, but at the undergraduate level Northwestern, Columbia, etc. are much more selective and their average class sizes are much smaller. They also draw far more students (as a percentage of total enrollment) from out of state. These factors may or may not matter to you.

School … % of classes < 20 … % of classes >= 50
TOSU … 31.5% … 20.2%
NU … 75% … 6.3%
Columbia… 79.7% … 7.1%

Are you seeking merit aid or need-based aid? It makes a big difference in your strategy. Generally, merit aid is very hard to get (or non-existent) at the most selective private schools; however, the need-based aid tends to be relatively generous at the same schools (if you qualify for it).

^^ tk21769 is right that my ranking was based on graduate level; however, since Gourman is too ancient and USNWR only provides Graduate ranking in the subject of Psychology.

Furthermore, tOSU had recent completed the construction of the new $40-million Psychology Building. So the facility should be top-notch at Ohio State. And in terms of classroom sizes, tOSU is in the process of hiring 300 faculties, roughly 10 additional faculty members (20% more than current) will be added to the department which should significantly reduce its student:faculty ratio.
