I currently go to IU Bloomington and I am really not liking it here. It's too big of a school and me being the shy person that I am I have barely made any friends. I also cannot stand that this school is so big on Greek life and I applied to the music school and did not get in so I am really considering transferring somewhere else. I'd really like to go to a school that is not too difficult to get into with either the liberal arts or music programs, but that's small so that the experience feels more personal.

Hello I’m not too sure about music but these are a few great liberal art colleges

Swarthmore college
Augustana college in South Dakota
Lafayette college

NYU isn’t bad. I know a professor there and she says the the school is big but for music it’s great with the New York exposure…

Good luck btw can you kindly check out my post and chance me???

Look into St Olaf and Lawrence, both match your descriptions - fairly small, LACs, excellent music programs. St Olaf has no Greek Life and is “dry” although there are parties (just not the puking-is-fun type) but it’s more selective than Lawrence. Lawrence has a full fledged conservatory within the university.
You could try to apply to both and see what happens…
[St. Olaf College ? A private liberal arts college of the Lutheran church in Minnesota](http://wp.stolaf.edu/)
[Lawrence University](http://www.lawrence.edu/)

Bard and Oberlin come to mind. Muhlenberg. I don’t know what you mean by not too difficult to get into. Transferring into any small school can be difficult from one year to the next because one never knows how many openings there will be. Each school will have its own rules about whom they will take. Whatever you do, get good grades at Indiana so that you can transfer.

^seconding Muhlenberg. It’s a terrific school for liberal arts and music.
Bard and Oberlin don’t qualify as “not too difficult to get into” IMHO though, but of course we don’t have OP’s stats so they very well may be.
OP, what was your HS GPA and SAT/ACT scores, and what’s your current college GPA?

Oberlin, Rochester, and Berklee all have very, very solid music programs

Oberlin, Franklin & Marshall, Bard, Muhlenberg, Skidmore, Wesleyan, Lafayette,

I’d look at the schools that are mentioned so far and find none that is easy to get into. I don’t know augustans.

OP, we need a GPA for Indiana and one for high school. Some ACT/SAT would help.

Suggestions for less selective LACs with music departments that we have visited:
Susquehanna for sure - we visited at noon on a weekday and the music building was bustling with people going to classes, rehearsals happening etc. It was a great positive atmosphere. The jazz band was strong.

Also consider Loyola in New Orleans - we visited and the practice rooms were active and people were extremely friendly.

I also agree with Franklin & Marshall - music seemed to be a priority there.

Shenandoah University and Lebanon Vally College both appeared to have good music departments - we did not hear any performing groups.

A bit of a reach might be Skidmore - we attended the orchestra and dance departments performance of Swan Lake - excellent!

Ithaca has an excellent music school as part of a mid sized liberal arts college.

Holy Cross very good LAC 1 hour from Boston. HC has no Greek life, decent music program and students love the school.

HOly Cross is a top 25 college - hardly what I’d call “easy to get into”.
OP, we need your college and HS GPA + test scores.

Do any of those schools also have some sort of fashion program?

I got a 27 on my ACT, I think my high school GPA was a 3.2 and I don’t know what my current GPA is…so yea, academically I don’t have much weight.

My d was a music major at U of R but her music study abroad program in Vienna, one of her roommates was a music major at Gettysburg College. Skidmore College also has a decent music program.

I ran a super match. For majors I put in all music and all fashion. I entered all the other data you gave us and pulled up a whole bunch of schools I’m not familiar with, in addition to Goucher College near Baltimore. If you did the same thing I did, you could take a look at these less well-known schools and see if any of them are for you. It would really widen your search and take you outside the usual LACs that get recommended on CC. You will have to narrow down the majors and make sure any college which you investigate further has the music and/or fashion sub-major you want. The people at CC know the top 25 or 50 LACs, but there are hundreds of other LACs out there that don’t get mentioned and at which students get good educations.

Check out Stetson U. In Florida. Not exactly a LAC because it offers a few grad degrees. But 2,500 students and great music school.

Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin is a LAC and conservatory of music. There are about 1,500 undergraduate students, so it’d definitely be a lot smaller! According to US News, only 18% of men and 9% of women are involved in Greek life. Wisconsin Lutheran also has a music program, but I’m not sure how “good” it is. There are about 1,000 undergrads and there is no Greek life. Good luck!

If you are looking for music and fashion check out Columbia College Chicago (not to be confused with Columbia College in SC)
