Planning to transfer but not for a while...I'm looking for suggestions since I'm not really sure which schools are a target/match or whatever. I'm looking for a college that's:

Rural/suburban
Has a campus
Medium-large university (no LAC's)
Northeast (Mid-Atlantic-New England)
Strong academic programs/top 40ish

Here are my stats:
High School:
GPA - 3.53 UW
SAT - 1360/2130
8 AP classes + couple of honors/advanced
HS ranked in top 15 public schools by NewsWeek
Had a bad Soph year, but gpa has upward trend
5 EC's, 2 leadership positions, 80 hrs Community service, pretty average

College:
New York University, interested in International Relations, Policy, Econ
4 Clubs, no leadership positions, some community service
Will apply for Fall 2010 Transfer as a Junior, except to colleges who take Spring transfers, where I'll apply Spring 2010 as a mid year Sophomore
College GPA: 3.7-3.85 range (have only completed 1 semester so I don't know yet).

thanks, cornell is top of my list, but it's a pretty big reach. any other suggestions? I really need some target/low reach schools. safeties have been taken care of.

Tufts, BC, Brandeis, Villanova, Lehigh, any of the Washington DC area universities (whether overall top 40 or not, they are mostly quite strong in your fields) - GW, American, UMCP, JHU, UVA....

Pasadena - this board is full of strong students who want to transfer out, most of them much smarter than i am :) I want to transfer because I hate my college experience.

I'm applying as an Econ major, btw. BC and Lehigh have that preppy LAC-type atmosphere I want to avoid, plus I have a close friend at BC who hates it and is transferring as well. Do you guys think my list is ok?

I dont know much about SUNY Geneseo your list seems alrite.
W&M ranks the no.1 on national popular greek life. are u sure you are okay with that? cuz i know NYU is not that much greek though.

To be honest, if you keep a 3.8 GPA, I think you can get into Cornell. The only thing that is really hurting you is your high school GPA, I think how much your hs gpa plays into your applications will determine what type of schools you can get into. In my opinion, I think you could get into any school within the UNC/Tufts range to the Umich/UCLA/Cornell/Northwestern range depending on how much your hs gpa matters as a factor in admissions.

well I'm looking for a college with a vibe totally different from NYU, so i don't mind a strong greek scene. i've decided against WaM for a couple of reasons, mostly size and location. i've decided to cross American off the list as well.

Do you think i'm reaching too high with Cornell, JHU and Gtown? it's worth a shot, I think.
Gtown and JHU will be Junior transfer so HS won't be a big factor, I think. Cornell (which is my 1st choice, as I love the location, its ideals and mission, plus JHU is in Baltimore and Gtown's Catholic and in DC and I prefer something more rural) will be 2nd semester Soph transfer, so they'll see 1 full year of college as well as mid year grades for next semester. What do you guys think?

Any more suggestions for target schools would be great, btw. i appreciate all the advice.
