What are some good universities for hotel/restaurant management?

I am going to be a junior this coming fall. When I graduate, I want to go to a 4 year university and major in hotel/restaurant mangement, then go to CIA to be a pastry chef. And I want to know what schools are known for their hotel/restaurant management course. I know that Cornell is the best, but I live in California and I dont think I can afford the out-of-state tuition. I also heard that University of Nevada Las Vegas was good, but I dont particularly see myself going there.... Are there any colleges other than those two that are famous for thier hotel/restaurant management course? Give me some advices plaese! Thanks :D

If you can't afford it then I would just try to go to the best school possible or a top business school. You might also want to consider staying in CA as the UCs are cheap and are great schools. Have you considered Berkeley Haas?

Penn State considers itself second only to Cornell in hotel management. I don't know about the restaurant mangement part.

I've heard good things about Purdue.

UCF has a whole seperate college for hospitality management. rose hulman i think it's called.

the weather would be a nice transition from CA and orlando has TONS of things to do, and lots of opportunities for internships and experience being a tourism town.

it may seem kind of unknown, but it's a real hidden gem and cost is relatively low. check it out!

The Central Intelligence Agency? Am I missing something? jk =D

CIA = Culinary Institute of America

I do believe I included a jk.

Michigan State, Washington State, U of Houston

These are all very nice and thank you all, but is there any university that's inside California so i wouldnt have to pay the out-of-state tuition?

Hospitality Education

Click on "Hospitality Programs" for a list of colleges with Hospitality Management programs.

Before dismissing Cornell because you don't think you can afford it, if you find you like the school you might want to give it a closer look. I knew many people at Cornell from very broad socio-economic backgrounds that were there in all sorts of financially creative ways.

Why not UNLV? Second only to Cornell, MUCH cheaper, Vegas... VEGAS! Seems like a good deal to me

Cornell, Penn State, Delaware

Purdue has an exceptional hotel management program. one of the best.

Not a big name school, but Northern Arizona University (NAU) has a very well-regarded hospitality program. It's tied in with many of the 5-star resorts in the Scottsdale/Paradise Valley area. And the cost of attendance is fairly inexpensive, even for out-of-state residents.

even though you may not be able to afford going their, apply to Cornell anyway, they give very good need based aid so if you do get in, you very well might be able to afford it. As long as you get everything in on time you'll be able to review your financial aid packages before you accept enrollment somewhere. Of course this does mean you can't apply early decision, which is unfortunate, but such is life.

The Hospitality College at Johnson and Wales in Providence, I know a few grads including my brother, all have made out pretty well...

Johnson & Wales Hospitality

Aren't the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and the University of Houston also supposed to be quite strong in Hospitality Management?

UH Hotel Management.
