what are some of the top undergrad engineering schools?

i am interested in chemical engineering, biomed engineering, possibly nuclear or civil or mechanical
what can i get into with 27 act ( 35math, 29science, 26eng, 16 reading, and 11/12 essay) i might improve it to like a 29 or 30 possibly

so what places should i apply to? i have thought about uc berkeley as my top choice, but as an out of state is kinda expensive and hard to get in
where els should i apply to? and what private schools have good engineering program that fits my data/ record?

thanks guys!

For starters

[Best Undergraduate Engineering Schools | Top Undergraduate Engineering Programs | US News Best Colleges](http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/rankings/engineering)

I know Purdue and UIUC are great engineering schools…

CO School of Mines? You might be able to get in if you have that 35 in math and with your great GPA…its got I believe a 98% employment rate and the average starting salary is extremely high…also its got a great location.

only problem is with location of the school. if that school was in cali i would totally go there… colorado is in the middle of nowhere and i really want to go to either coast, preferably cali

You say UCB OOS is expensive. What can your family afford? Many OOS schools will cost a similar amount as UCB. Are you in-state for anywhere?

in state for minnesota. haha

That’s a good school. I see people on your other thread recommending you take that school seriously.

For ChemE, it will be very, very hard to beat Minnesota-Twin Cities. One of the best ChemE programs around … and in-state tuition for you.

or Wisconsin, another in-state tuition school for you.

U. of Wisc. would be ideal and I believe you do get instate cost.

Opps, just posted then saw that I said the same thing as the person above me. I agree then :)

For a Minnesota resident who wants to do Chem E, you’re not going to do better than U Minnesota-Twin Cities. UW-Madison would be close in price and quality and entirely acceptable if you prefer Madison to Minneapolis. It’s sort of foolish to look beyond that in Chem E, frankly. Terrific value.

wait how do you guys know that u of minnesota has a good undergrad chemical department? from what i have heard its always ranked top like #3 for grad school in chem e, behind uc berkeley and MIT… i am confused. i know the u has a great program, but i just want to keep my options open and see where it can get me.

If Minnesota and/or Wisconsin are admissions safeties for you, then there is not a lot of reason to look elsewhere, since they are good and low cost for you.

If not, then you may have to look at less selective schools, like Delaware, Virginia Tech, etc. to see if they are safeties (though you can still apply to Minnesota and Wisconsin if your stats indicate that they are a match or a not-unrealistic reach).

i know i will be a good candidate at u of minnesota. tell you the truth i will be annoyed if i dont get in… my grades are high and although my act isnt high, the math portion and writing portion is almost perfect. i know ppl with lower act and gpa and extrecricular and leadership getting into the college of science and engineering at the u of minnesota. so i think u of m is a pretty safe school for me as of now. what do you guys think?

oh and please throw out colleges that would be matches, and also reaches for me. thanks

What a wonderful candidate the OP is.

If you are interested in Biomedical Engineering (after you graduate, you work in biotech or pharmaceutical manufacturing company… ~100k/year starting salary), choose JHU or Duke. They are ranked 1 and 2 respectively for BME.

Neither JHU nor Duke posts career survey information by major.

The $100k/year starting pay for biomedical engineering graduates is not likely to be typical, since other http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/internships-careers-employment/1121619-university-graduate-career-surveys.html</a> indicate that biomedical engineering graduates’ starting pay is nowhere near that on average.

JHU and Duke have the 1 and 2 BME programs in the country. That by itself results in the 100k/year

1/#2 schools in any major do not result in $100k/year starting pay on average for bachelor’s degree graduates, according to the career surveys from some of those schools.
