What are some productive things to do, out of ideas?

What's up, everyone?

I'm kind of stuck, and I was wondering if anyone had any helpful ideas, by any chance. I am a very active student in the school choir, orchestra, and art program, I'm the student council president, and I am the director of the school TV announcements. I plan to do sports in the coming month and I am academically A-okay (haha, see what I did there?) However I find that I have a considerable amount of time on my hands, and I don't really know what to do. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to something productive to learn, because I am a perpetual learner! Thanks! :)

Whoops, I forgot to add that I am also editor of the school yearbook, and any ideas that might help with college admissions don’t hurt! ;)

Be careful, sports will take up your time so fast you won’t realize. So just be careful to prioritize your time when you start sports.

What are you interested in? Engineering? If so, see if your school has a T.S.A chapter (Technology Student Association) and if not, start one. It gets very complex with the registration, but then it’s over. There are regional, state, and national competitions ranging from Biotechnology (what I do) to Manufacturing. It is my favorite EC, and I feel like this impacted me greatly and wrote about it in some of my essays. Also, if you’re the science type, you can do Science UIL, but I think International Biology Olympiad is much better. You literally have to read the textbook on your own because IBO goes so in depth in the things that you have to know, and it is a great learning experience. Hope that helps

Hi @emenya,

I think I forgot to mention that I’m in middle school, 8th grade, to be exact. I plan on goingd pre-med in college (idk about my major yet, obviously), but I’m also really in to music, art, and science. Our school doesn’t exactly have those specialized types of things going on, unfortunately. Thanks for the advice though! I’ll take it with me to high school. By the way, if you have time, could you check out my latest post as well? I kinda also need help with that situation. Thanks so much.

Start training for your upcoming sport

Agree, cross training and exercise is a great idea and can be done conveniently and inexpensively.

@tigerman333 @HImom Ok, what would you recommend for volleyball and tennis (later on)?

Have you considered learning about programming and computer science? It’s often neglected in K-12 education yet it underlies our technology-rich lives. The Python class at Codecademy (it’s free) is an easy introduction, for example.

I’d go ask the PE teacher or coach of the teams you’re trying to get into. You could also watch a practice or two to just see what exercises they do for warmup and practices. Running for conditioning is also always good.

@aldfig0 Ok, I’ll check it out! Thank you!
@HImom Good idea! Thanks a lot! I’ll look into it after Thanksgiving.

I do weights and cardio for tennis

Go do things with friends. Many people are so occupied with schoolwork/activities that they forget to have fun. Social skills are just as important as grades or ECs. Other ideas would be reading, working out, or getting a job.
