What are some schools that are good at both art and science/engineering?

for arts i mean fine arts... drawing, painting, etc. what are some schools that are really good at both art and science/engineering? preferably ones that will allow you to take classes in both (for example, not cooper union)

My son looked into this and he applied to the following: carnegie mellon, UW-Madison, Ohio State, VCU, WUSTL, Yale and RIT. We discovered after he was accepted that RIT looks very multidisciplinary but is not really organized to promote this and it is very hard to take classes outside of major/school. VCU has mediocre engineering but good art. Yale requires a lot of core classes for all majors so if you are lucky enough to be admitted doing a dual degree is almost impossible without 5 years. WUSTL and CMU were the two that encouraged and had structures for double engineering/arts majors or even a major/minor combination. The state universities all allow double majors but only ohio state has an interdisciplinary course of study for Technology/Art. S is going to CMU this month but did not choose to go as an official double major but plans to explore a minor or concentration in robotics or IT with the art. At least the first semester he is unable to take anything outside of foundation …also…somewhat ticked that they don’t force the CFA to take the math placement or computer programming exam…he didn;'t realize he could take them while the material is/was fresh in his mind. If he had been an official dual major as a freshman he would have been forced to do this and hopefully skipped some intro calc and programming. We are waiting to see if the multidisciplianry art/engineering/tech actually pans out…it is an expensive experiment.

I go to University of Delaware, which has a great art department, and UD is nationally known for ranking in the top 5 for engineering. Our art department has two sections, fine art and visual communications. Im in VC which is more design, video, and illustration. Fine arts is more photography, painting, sculpture.

Daughter goes to Alfred University, a sophomore majoring in Art and Design. Her BF is a materials engineering student. Both love the school. You can take classes in other subjects. Daughter has taken some philosophy and anthropology courses, BF has taken music (minoring). There are specific art classes for engineering/science majors as well.
