I’m an upcoming freshman, and will be living on campus my first two years as per the University’s rules. I’m very bad at over packing for pretty much any occasion, so I was wondering what exactly will I need in college? If there is anything a typical person wouldn’t think to need, then it would be much appreciated if it were brought to my attention. Hopefully I can get a pretty good understanding of everything needed so that I won’t stress while packing and attempt to shove my whole room into my car haha
Your time is much appreciated!
Here’s a standard thread you need to read:

If you go down the list and check things off, there should be very few things to buy once you’re there.
@cameraphone - thanks for the link.
After thousands of hours tying myself into knots, developing ulcers while lurking through the college selection threads, reading something so concrete, immediately helpful was … refreshing.
Good luck this fall, OP!
Hey AnnabethCerece, I am a soon-to-be-freshman who has done a ton of reading on many aspects of college. I will look for some links to some of the websites I have read; I added a couple I know of off the top of my head at the bottom. In the meantime, a few general tips I’ve picked up:
You will almost always overpack with clothes; Pack clothes that will fit the seasons you will be in your new college town, and exchange them on visits back home. Have at least two weeks worth of clothes, so you know you will be able to go at least that long between washes.
In general, you will appreciate many of the smaller comforts that don’t take up a ton of space, but don’t overdo it; you will be living in a much smaller space, probably with a roommate.
A lot of the packing ‘tips’ involve what to leave behind, too. Most books are a no-no; you won’t have enough time to read much if any of them. Stuffed animals should also be left at home, too. If you have a particular attachment to one, though, it could be one of your ‘comforts of home’ objects.
Hope this stuff was helpful, I’ll see if I can find any other good websites.

High Quality polarized sunglasses. You’re gonna be walking building-building outside a lot. It’s very important to protect your eyes. Invest in some Oakley/Rayban/Costa/etc.
