what are some other [joke] things that CC has taught you?

That the best way to estimate whether you will get into a particular college or not is to ask people who know even less than you do about your chances to “chance” you.

1) What the best AP review books are; huge shout-out to dark knight for making the CC community aware of the potent Crash Course series.
2) There is always someone better than I am. More APs, perfect SAT scores, Olympiads, etc.

Your extracurricular list doesn’t include starting a charity that feeds starving African children? Sorry, you have bad ECs, you won’t get into college.

Being president of two clubs, doing club soccer, hip hop, and volunteering at a cultural center is considered “weak” ECs. SAT is not an intelligence test as most people see it; if you study and practice hard, your score will improve.

A surprising number of kids who got 1800 on the SAT on their first shot post messages saying that they are shooting for 2300 the next time, and ask what can they do to accomplish this feat.

The only good SAT score is 2390. Anything under is not good enough, and a 2400 means you have no life. Also, a 2390 means nothing unless you also have perfect SAT IIs. Without this, all ivys are reaches.

In addition to taking all available AP courses at the school, one must also enroll him or her-self into a local community college as well as self-study at LEAST 8 additional APs.

Average cc’er: “You got a 2340? Wow, you must be really stupid. You definitely need to retake if you ever want to be admitted into a good US college.” But seriously, cc has made my step up my game. Seeing the competition out there, especially among international applicants(i actually first heard about the olympiad on cc), has made me work harder to create a better college app.
