Specifically in the fields of animation or graphic design?.. I’ve heard of UCLA, Drexel, Temple, and the DAAP program at UC a couple times. I am interested in a university that offers academics with a strong art program. Any suggestions?
Southern Methodist University (SMU) has an incredible Arts program. Unfortunately, it is hard to get into too.
You may want to look into California Institute of the Arts (Cal Arts) in North Los Angeles. Very high % of current Pixar animators graduated from Cal Arts. They even have several of their buildings/classrooms named after Disney executives I think…but you get the point. Disney/Pixar recruits Cal Arts. If you want an academic institution with a strong animation/graphic design, you should look into University of Southern California. I would think that USC would be a top tier program. Chapman University is another option. I am from California so I’m more familiar with the Cali. schools.
Definitely USC. Also look at NYU, Ohio State, RIT, Carnegie Mellon, and Emerson.
This list is a good resource for animation schools: http://www.animationcareerreview.com/articles/top-50-animation-schools-and-colleges-us-%E2%80%93-2015?page=0,0o

Are you asking about univs, rather than art colleges, because you need aid? Art schools often dont’ give much aid.
