I'm a prospective transfer student and have been closely looking into all that I need to as I transfer into USC.

Obviously the school is not cheap and I wish to find as much information regarding being able to not pay anything out of my own pocket.

As of right now I will be applying on collegeboard.com including the Fafsa website, and also the Cal Grant.

Looking at the Usc Application, looking at the Scholarships page i've noticed as a transfer I can apply to the TRANSFER MERIT, NORMAN TOPPING STUDENT AID FUND, ALUMNAE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM, TOWN AND GOWN, and MEXICAN AMERICAN ALUMNI ASSOCIATION.

I just do want to be paying a lot. Please help? Tips, suggestions, advice. Thanks!

Also...

i should apply for Federal, State and University Financial Aid right?

Federal is the Fafsa right?
State is Cal Grant?
University? How do i go about that?

In response to the original question, ROTC pays full tuition plus a monthly stipend between $250 and $400, but it's not for everyone and you have a service commitment after you graduate.

Pretty much apply for everything you can. (especially USC financial aid itself) USC's generous with their grants and if you are poor, they'll practically give you full tuition (that's what basically what I have, 31K, 5K loan, 8K my parents pay)

uyulove: Do you reside in CA ? and was that Uni-scholarship combined with Cal grants or just a USC scholarship ?, just curious, i'm seeing how feasible it is for to transfer to USC. I used to live in CA 2 years ago, but moved to dear 'ol Mississippi, and well the place well as education basically sucks around here...

USC was my 1st choice when i was in Cali., and I want to see if that's still withing reach since my chances of Cal grants and Ca-aid are now 0.... btw sorry to the OP for semi-boycotting your thread lol.

Nah, I'm from the South. I didn't get any cal grant therefore and i strangely didn't get any pell grant either from the government itself... All my grants are from USC itself, so you don't have to be a california resident to get some free money around here. hahaha

I am also tinking of applyin to usc but it is so expen! Will it make a difference if u have a super high gpa and they will give more uni grants? cuz my family is really earns very average income. Is there other website that we can apply scholarship?

dang, you must've had VERY good grades then uyulove. I have a 4.0 college GPA (hoping they look at this more than a 3.8 HS GPA and my non-stellar test scores) 3 semesters in, with the hardest possible curriculum (been studying my butt off the past 1 1/2 years).

Did you apply as a freshman though ?. I don't know, but I would think that for transfers, they probably don't give out as much free money as they do to freshmen... Do you have any idea how it works with transfers ? or if they're serious about helping transfers ?, cause all they say in their website is "Amount:Varies" for pretty much every award I think I'm eligible for.

Thanks a lot for your help, and sorry to bombard you with all these questions :p

Grants are not based on grades, its based on your income. my income is rather low (my father's a pastor.. yeah that job makes a lot of money sarcasm) so if you can, I guess shoot for both grants and scholarships. I'll tell you now though, my friend who got a full scholarship gets only like 2K more than me (33-34K?)

I applied as a freshman (and is still one) They might hold back a little bit more on transfers but I think they'll still give you a lot of money... because its USC (that's what we are known for, being filthy rich)

Ok, thanks a lot for your help. My income is rather low too, so I'm hoping I can get some grants and maybe earn a scholarship on the way with my grades. Thanks again for your help though

I'm a transfer student though, would I have to retake the SAT/ACT even though I'll have 2 years of college work completed with a 4.0 possibly (3.9 at worse)? or would they look at my college work instead ?
