What are the benefits of Honors college?

I checked the Rutgers site, and it only offers some vague details on the subject. What are the benefits of honors college? Do graduate schools prefer honors college students? Is there anthing that you have to do once you get in? So many questions....

The Henry Rutgers Scholars Project is designed as a graduate level experience for outstanding undergraduates. The Henry Rutgers Scholars Project is a 12-credit course that constitutes a major commitment in terms of time and energy. As such, it is not for every senior. I heard you get enourmous funding. I heard a girl got like $20K to go to Africa and complete her research. I am not sure about the money, but you do get funding to complete your research. There are very few undergraduate honors programs like this and it looks damn good for grad school.

I think we're talking about two different things; I haven't even heard of that scholars thing...

The Henry Rutgers Scholars Program is a seperate program that any Rutgers student can decide to participate in when a junior. You do research and write a thesis and it is a great program, but I'm sure that wasnt what Sanosuke was asking about.

Each college (douglass, rutgers college, livingston, pharmarcy yadayadayada) has its own honors program. There is no seperate honors COLLEGE, but a program that is part of a college. I am a student in the Rutgers college honors program so i can answer questions about it.

There are plenty of advantages of the program (it's why i chose to come to RU):
-We have a seperate honors dorm which is really nice.
-We have 2 specialized honors deans who know EVERYthing and are really helpful.
-We have special honor classes. There are honor seminars which are interdisciplinary in nature and limited to an enrollment of 15 and there are also honors sections of regular courses. (I took an honors seminar in "Communications and Human Values" this semester and took an honors section of Intro to Philosophy and Organic Chemistry).
-We also get the added bonus of saying that you're an "honors student." This means a lot not only for graduate school and everything, but professors always want to work with and help honors students b/c they know they care about learning or whatev.

Anyway, those were just a few things off the top of my head. There are also seperate honors activities like picnics and trips to NYC and stuff. If you want more info, go to http://rchonors.rutgers.edu
