What are the best cheap restaurants near UW?

Busing to the Intl. District takes a long time.

the cheapest thing is to either bring a sandwich or bring meals from home, there are microwaves where you can heat it. Also, subway is reasonable.

If you’re into sandwiches, Jimmy John’s is pretty good too.

What cuisine do you like? “Best” is pretty relative, I’ve found, especially when getting to know the wide variety of students here.

uhh subway? jimmy johns? please.

there are a billion other places to eat that are better and as much money as subway. just walk up the ave and pick a place.

some of the places i frequent: ok noodles, garam masala, nasai teriyaki, chipotle, kiku’s tempura house, aladdin gyrocery, a burger place, thaiger room, qdoba, korean tofu house, china first, any of about a half dozen pho places

the yelp reviews for China First are like something out of a horror story

I like Subway/JJ when I really need a grab and go, 5-10 minute to go order, and don’t have time to call in for take out. There are DEFINITELY better places to go on the Ave, but these are fast.

I gave China First a try… you can’t pay me to go back. I’m Chinese. Also, a group of my friends from China/Taiwan did EFS and had to go make a “menu” for some of the Ave restaurants (not sure which class this was…). They tried China First (Homeland food!?), didn’t finish their meals, one of them got sick, and pretty much blacklisted the place for life.

My usual places if I have more time for lunch than an order and run: Mee Sum Pastry, Korean Tofu House, Pho Than Brothers, Aladdin Gyrocery, Chipotle, Little Thai, Thai 65, Yummy Bites. And bubble tea/boba/pearl milk tea/tapioca drinks (not sure what you prefer calling it).

Some of my friends love Hawaii BBQ - it’s up north a bit more but the portions are huge. I can eat about a third of it in a sitting and can feel my cholesterol spike up :P

Thai Tom is supposed to be pretty good but when I went with a few friends, we actually got yelled at for not tipping more than 10% (there were 3 of us…and their service was terrible when we went). Not going back.

There’s also now a 7-11 if you want to grab something because of lack of time.

There is no surprise you guys don’t like China First. They have a terrible record with the health department: [Restaurant inspection information - results](http://info.kingcounty.gov/health/ehs/foodsafety/inspections/Results.aspx?Output=W&Business_Name=China%20First&Business_Address=&Longitude=&Latitude=&City=&Zip_Code=&Inspection_Type=All&Inspection_Start=&Inspection_End=&Inspection_Closed_Business=A&Violation_Points=&Violation_Red_Points=&Violation_Descr=&Fuzzy_Search=N&Sort=B)

I don’t know about you guys, but I always check inspection records of those places where I eat. Food poisoning is the last thing I want to get.

um, yeah. i would NOT recommend china first.

I love little thai!

seatac: ah yes…i first came across that website when 1/2 the people i knew swore to me up and down how amazing thai tom and the other 1/2 thought it was the most disgusting place ever.

One of those disgusted link this:

their point violations is crazy high

yeah china first is pretty bad, I included it on the list because they do have a very cheap lunch special, though I rarely go there.

I wouldn’t go by any of the yelp reviews for places in the UD, I think many ppl who review there have tastes and expectations that differ from the college student demographic that they all cater to. If you want cheap food and are not expecting fine dining and cloth napkins, any place will do.

my favorite on the ave is thai tom. it’s kinda run down and usually pretty busy, but it’s really awesome thai food and the whole experience is kinda fun. remember that it’s cash only!

Ej’s Burgers is the bomb!
