What are the best college towns?

madison, wisconsin
state college, pa
tempe, az
boston, ma
charlottesville, va
ithaca, ny

San Diego, CA has gotta be up there....

Ithaca? State college? I'd hardly call these "best college towns"

Boulder, Colorado....CU

boston....

another vote for Ithaca. Notice the title "college towns" not "college cities."

Palo Alto hands down the best. you've got the beach a 40 min drive away, SF a 30 min drive away, amazing weather 24/7/365, and university ave couldn't be more perfectly college.

Equine, you mean to tell me you don't like Lewisburg???
:-P

yep ithica.. but not b/c of cornell b/c every1 knows the ithica kids have more fun... and athens,OH (if youve been there then you know what im talking about)

Chico, California.

It is a most excellent place.

Ann Arbor, MI!

If it wasn't for UC Davis, Davis wouldn't really be a town. About half the population is students, and another good chunk is the faculty/staff of the university. I've bumped into my professors at the grocery store before haha.
Everywhere you go, most people you see are college aged - the bus drivers, clerks at the store, etc.. it's pretty cool.

Madison, Ann Arbor, Boulder, Austin, Chapel Hill, C'Ville.

Northampton, MA

Providence, especially around College Hill, is pretty wonderful.

Montreal and Boston

hopkinslax-- it has its charms (a very few!) but if not for bucknell, I wouldn't be caught dead here. It's like a 3 hour drive away from any city (worth visiting) and an hour and a half away from any remotley decent shopping lol it especially sucks when you don't have a car

Ann Arbor, for sure.

San Diego is a tourist town, not a college town, even though SDSU has a rep for being a party school.

Palo Alto is a good town for yuppies and Stanford certain does have its influence on Paly. But it is basically a bedroom community where Stanford and Hewlett Packard reside. Not really a good college town.

Can someone define what is a college town?
