make them serious, funny, thought-provoking, or off-the-wall! just keep them clean :)

It's always school and the weather for dull me:/

things about tv shows are often good. at lunch, we often talk about the TV show Family Guy.

i guess it can be small talk too, like the weather, a common enemy (such as school, homework)... current events... u get the idea

according to www.collegehumor.com (a great site, by the way) the OC is a very successful conversation starter for guys approaching girls.

(clearly a generalization that allll girls watch the OC, but really, it's such an entertaining show, all girls and guys should watch it)

oh my god... that show looks so freaking dumb... of course, whenever something becomes popular i generally run in the opposite direction, it's my bias

"whenever something becomes popular i generally run in the opposite direction, it's my bias"

same here!

It's sadly true tho. Girls are just hot for guys that like the OC. It's like the new Twin Peaks. A soap for the hip young crowd of both guys and girls.

the best conversation starter is to sit to just sit there, curiously stare at the other person and smile. the other person usually asks what you're thinking about, and the conversation goes well from there.

if anyone pulled a tv show on me I'd give them a blank stare. I don't watch tv. not even the oc.

if anyone "curiously stared" at me I'd be creeped out.

their reaction says something about their personality

you could read a lot about mine, I'd leave the scene, lol.

"the best conversation starter is to sit to just sit there, curiously stare at the other person and smile. the other person usually asks what you're thinking about, and the conversation goes well from there."

that seems a little creepy to me...

LoL i find the most off limit topics to be the best convo starters :)! politics, current events etc...

but i guess the O.C. would be fine too ;-)

I have to greet 75+ people a shift as a security guard and I believe the weather and How is school going have gotten to the point where I turn up my radio and just nod and point so I don't have to listen to this inane chatter. I don't have problems with certain chats per se, but why in the sam hell to people have to say the same effing thing EVERY DAY. Mix it up a little, day 1: "How's it going?" day 2: "What's up?
day 3: "Did you see that Cavs game?" day 4 "Feeling OK?" day 5: etc etc etc

Walk up to a girl in a bar, gaze deeply into her eyes while caressing her hand, and ever so delicately ask of her: "Do you like pork chops?".*

results may vary

I usually just start it about a school or major b/c when I meet girls it is either in class, at a social event (not often since I usually go with friends), or at a party. PArty it totally doesn't matter. As long as you make them laugh. Girls love to laugh.

exilio, that is very funny--pork chops?? haha! I'd really be weirded out shivers... and you're right, IlliniJBravoEcho, girls DO love to laugh. I love it more than anything when a guy makes me laugh...well...anyhoo, my favorite way to start a conversation with a good pal is "What's up?" happy sigh Which way did my life go?
