Amsco or 5 Steps to a 5 for American History

Didn’t study very hard, but I got a 4

I’ve heard good things about the AMSCO book. Where can I find it for a reasonable price?

Yeah most people suggest AMSCO for American History. I think Amazon is your best bet for buying it, expect that it’s temporarily out of stock.

bump.
what about government and politics?

^ My question exact. (For AP US Gov & Politics)

Another thing about AMSCO: Don’t get it off Amazon. I suggest you buy it directly from the vendor’s (AMSCO) website for $17 or so. It’s pretty expensive ($27-30) on Amazon and plus, it takes them forever to ship in some instances, esp. when it’s not in stock (I’m talking weeks/months).

Five Steps to a Five is good for USH?

What about REA?

Get AMSCO definitely.

I didn’t have such a great experience with REA last year in AP European History. While the summary of the information was helpful, the six or so practice tests featured the most obscure questions, nothing like the real test. I found the Princeton Review - and Sparknotes as a supplement - a lot more helpful as they helped me get a 5.
Is REA like this for other AP’s in history/social studies?

REA for APUSH is solid - I can definitely vouch for that. I actually had to use it last year (required) as a prep book, it was really useful and informative. I would still stick to AMSCO. REA’s Crash Course for APUSH (which is different) is really good as well.

IMO, if you can, try to get REA’s Crash Course for APUSH + AMSCO = you’ll most likely get a 5.

Okay, I will definitely look into those books!

AMSCO is a good review book, but it’s long and detailed, and not appropriate for last minute reviewing. We used that book as our textbook, actually.

^Agree with xxrunningonempty - I used Crash Course last year and got a 5.
What is the best for AP Government?

Princeton Review seemed to help a lot with my AP Gov course on Florida Virtual School. However, considering that I haven’t taken the exam yet, I can’t vouch for its success.

I’ve read a lot of reviews that the Cliffs AP Government book is good

I actually have a copy of the Cliffs AP US Government and Politics book (it was on sale for $5 on Amazon so I figured why not? lol). My only issue with the book is that it was written in 2002 and it hasn’t been updated since then - so that’s basically a 7 to 8 year gap when you come to think of it, so I can’t really gauge its reliability.
