I’m currently a junior and I’m looking to prep for the act in April. I took a Kaplan practice test yesterday and I scored a 28. My sub scores were:
English-23
Math-29
Reading-22
Science-36
I am looking to end with a composite score of 34. I’m starting to study with the Princeton review act book, but i am also looking personal tutoring courses. I have looked into Kaplan, Princeton review, Huntington, and Sylvan. I’m not sure if it would be better to get one on one prep of just take a generalized act prep class with other students. What has worked for you guys?
The best preparation is learning everything you can in high school. Your lowest scores are reading and English. Read everything carefully and learn to write. Both are skills that can be improved by effort and experience. Be sure to learn vocabulary, grammar and reading quickly with comprehension. Take every opportunity to learn and practice.
Practice, practice, practice! I went to a $2,500 SAT prep place but it all has to do with your dedication to improving. You can spend $50 worth on prep materials and learn the same amount, if not more, as someone who went to a really expensive place. The best way to improve is to familiarize yourself with the test and take it as many times as possible, then correcting it and see what you need to improve on and get right on the next test.
