I have recently taken the sat and I was wondering how big of an effect the subject tests have on colleges and how difficult they are. I am currently taking Us history AP, is that alone enough to be successful with the us history subject test?m Also i was wondering what other subject tests any of you may recommend. If it matters I plan on applying for a double major of philosophy and political science win I do, if that even matters at all.
I am looking for these subject test to help sort of cushion my, less than desirable GPA and class rank.
I welcome any advice Thank you

Only the top colleges <require> SAT IIs.</require>

Most colleges don’t look at SAT IIs.

Take the ones that you will do good in. Also, if possible, do well on the ones that are related to your intended major.

i don’t agree with beretta9mm sat subject test are important because they give a greater insight of a student skill in any particular subject area and thats why they are given value by universities.but yes some universities like harvard, caltech stress more on sat 2 as compared to the others.

Definitely take US History and maybe even world history if you have the coursework. Like the other posters said, unless you are applying to a top college, it’s probably not necessary to take many SAT IIs. However, if you are applying to a top school, take at least two total. As a PoliSci major, US history will probably be your best option.

Most colleges do not look at SAT II’s but taking them can only strenghen your repertoire, given you prepare well for them. There aren’t any set “good” ones to take, just take ones that correlate to subjects that you’re taking currently. If you’re in AP Bio take the Biology E/M examination. For Top tier universities, one or two SAT II’s are required. Try to take at least one math SAT II, as that’s usually what they like to see.

Check with the potential major at the schools you will apply to

the Math 2 is often required for engineering as well as another science–physics/chem for example…

and some SAT2s are only avail certain dates (like Latin)
