What are the best schools I could get into?

<p>Hello, I am currently a sophomore at a 4 year accredited public school. It is a decent school, but I feel I can go to a top university. I am a mechanical engineering major. I was wondering what some of the best schools I could apply to that could be reach, and others that would be safety. I am not in a rush to get out of my current school, I would just like to try to raise the bar a bit if at all possible.</p>

<p>SAT: 1690
HS GPA: something around 3.3
College GPA: 3.97
College ECs: Vice president of house council, President and founder of Chess club, RA(resident assistant).</p>

<p>I can pick up some more EC's in the mean time, such as volunteer work if needed.</p>

<p>There’s definitely improvement from your HS GPA to your college GPA, and universities like seeing that you’ve been part of both spectrums. EC’s seem good, although don’t just partake in community service for college admissions. My coworker’s girlfriend worked as a admissions counselor at a local college of mine, and she was talking about how they just see right through that! So definitely be wary in terms of not being genuine! I would recommend that you retake your SATs again. If not, you can always try and take the ACT. I’ve said this so many times already, but I think it’s so much easier to study for than the SAT. Good luck!
