Less than 500 words, tops.

Good examples:
PR's Hit List (250)
Barron's High-Frequency (100)

Bad examples:
Kaplan (~500)
Barron's (800)
Sparknotes (1000)

If you end up deciding to pursue the longest vocab list possible, bear in mind that Barrons' 3500 list was made for the old SAT, and has since reduced it to 800 words with the removal of analogies from the test.

Also, studying lists such as Barron's High Frequency list is called studying smart - quality over quantity. Study the words that have a greater chance of appearing on the test, not words that most probably won't.
