does anyone know how often students who applied early action and have been deferred get accepted to NEU in the regular decision pool?

i was wondering the same thing, since i got deferred.

Slim unless you do something outstanding between the early decision and regular decision pool.

The correct answer is not SLIM. Northeastern does not rely solely on the EA pool in determing a Freshman class. If you read Dean of Addmissions Ronne Turner's recent blog, this very issue is addressed:

"I also want to offer some quick advice for those students who were deferred in the EA process. We are getting the question, “what else can I send/can I do to make my application stand out?” My answer is simple – send us your midterm grades and anything else that is listed as required on the on-line application status. If you have a new achievement or accomplishment since you submitted your original application, feel free to send us an updated resume or short written statement describing this new achievement. That is really all you can do- the rest is up to us. Remember, we know that you applied EA and will consider your interest in Northeastern positively we re-review your application.

We know this is a stressful time for our applicants and their families and urge you to take some time for yourself during these next few months, enjoy being a high school student and know you have done all that you can do in this process. Until next time……"

Your chances remain very positive. My son was deferred last year, as was as most of his friends, who now happily attend Northeastern and were accepted RD fall '07 or spring '08.

So now the question is... does anyone know of any EA deferees who got accepted RD?

They do accept defers. They simply aren't going to fill up the class limit of 2800 with EA because they have not been able to see the whole pool so thats why they defer.

I don't know if they release that number woo.designs but you may want to call and ask.

The question is how many of the 2800 went to EA. So how many spots are left? And do you think they take into consideration that you applied EA when examining you against the RD. I suspect it is whoever has the better CV.

I don’t have access to any statistics, but do keep in mind that the number of applicants this year means that unless the applicant pool was significantly better for EA than Regular Decision, that the chances of moving from a deferral to being accepted may be pretty low. As far as I can tell, Northeastern has done a good job of handling their applications, but I know last year that some schools weren’t prepared for the number of applications they received and literally wound up not accepting any deferred students (again, this was not at Northeastern).

Of course, its really difficult to make any kind of useful prediction.
