… what percent?

i think i read in another thread that it was somewhere around 15%. i have no proof of that though and i'm sure it just depends on the applicant pool. best of luck to you

It's a crap shoot, but don't lose hope. I myself was a deferral and was extremely disappointed (perhaps a few too many people assured me I'd be in for sure) but lo and behold, here I am as a current student of the Class of 08. I've also met a few deferral acceptees around as well so keep your chin up, continue to do well, send a sincere letter, and be patient.

does it reflect well on your rd reevaluation that you were deferred ed? or does that impact negatively... it looks like the admit rate for deferrals is really low. can anyone verify this?

deferred guys should send a letter? did not know that.. what's the context of it? "i really still want to go there"? help us deferred kids out

Yah, any info concerning deferrals would much appreciated...

I've heard as low as 10% and as high as 20% for you Upenn deferrees. The main thing I've heard is to let them know if accepted, you will attend there, and you're still very interested and they are still your first choice.

It can go high or go low depending on the strength of the regular pool. But normally, I think it's less than 15%...I read it somewhere.

Good Luck.

Don't take my word on this, but I do recall reading that the deferral rate was around 11-12% last year. In any case, all the usual advice is good advice, and if you haven't already, I highly highly recommend sending a resume (ecs, community service, work experience, awards, etc etc).

And as a side note: Penn does have around a 22% acceptance rate for transfers, so that's always an option as well!

Last year 15% of the defered students were accepted. This info comes from the upenn website. Once you go to your decision online, on the right hand side it says my decision and faq's. There it reports 15% end up gettin accepted. It also reports what you can do, such as send in extra rec, scores, mid year reports.

well, for joint programs, I doubt the deferral acceptance rate is high.

Since you applied early you have already shown a strong commitment to Penn, and that will of course work in your favor.

Penn wants students that want to go there.

However, it is ususally seen as being easier to get in through early decision, unless you are an international financial aid student, so if you didn't make it in the first round... I am not sure about the joint degree programs, but I think they defer a lot of students so as to have a pool of applicants as competative as possible.
