So I’m an Business Administration concentration in Accounting Major at CSUB. I didn’t do too well my first year since I have a 2.61 GPA overall rn, I failed 1 class but will be retaking it in the fall. So far I have 55 Quarter Unites Completes in the First Year since I took 15 units in Summer School which was a bad idea, since I passed the classes with a D-, C+, and B-. I know my gpa will go higher after the fall semester since I’m retaking a class and I will do much much better then I did this pat year. My other question is since the application process will be in October for the CSUs will they see my fall semester grades before making a decision? Or will they just see my 1 year grades and make a decision upon that? Also Sonoma State is Pre-Business, so does that mean I won’t be directly admitted to their Business Program? Thanks
I’ll be applying for Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting to Chico and Monterey Bay. And Business Administration with a concentration in Finance for San Jose State, and San Francisco
I think you have a good shot at Monterrey, Sonoma and SF. Don’t let the pre-business classification throw you, it is common at many CSUs. You have to complete a couple of courses on-site, that’s it.
Good luck.
@NCalRent What about Chico state?
With a 2.6, probably not Chico or SJSU.
Chico is more competitive than many think. For many majors UCR is an easier transfer target. For business, get your GPA above 3.2 to have a good shot.
SJSU posts last year’s GPA threshold here:
http://info.sjsu.edu/web-dbgen/narr/static/admission/xfr-f2015impact.html
The threshold varies significantly based on your concentration. Also note they change somewhat year to year based on the applicant pool.
Will the colleges only see my first gpa to make a decision on me? Or will my fall semester of sophomore year factor in as well?
After you have applied, you need to submit your transcript with Fall grades, so the schools will see your updated grades and GPA.
So they will base their decision off those grades as well right?
Yes, they should if you send the transcripts by the stated deadline. I was looking at Chico and Fullerton and they had a due in early February.
right, @gumbymom (as usual) as a transfer student, the Fall 16 grades will be considered before any decision is made. That said, going from 2.6 to 3.2 overall GPA in one semester is a big step (even with replacing a D with a B).

That will help you model you grades/gpa.
Good luck
@NCalRent What are my chances of getting into CSU East Bay’s Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting Program? My GPA is a 2.61 right now, and I’m assuming it should go to a 2.95ish to 3.05ish after this semester is complete. Since I’ll pass the class I failed hopefully with a B or above
you are very likely to be admitted to CSU EB for their biz major. I’d also encourage you to apply to Sonoma, SF and Monterrey. As I look around, more campuses are declaring themselves impacted (Monterrey included) , that makes it hard to guess where their thresholds will be next year. More options are better.
https://csumb.edu/admissions/impaction
Take a look at Sac State as an example. They are a couple of years into the process. they post several years of threshold info here:
http://www.csus.edu/cba/ubac/impaction.html
As you can see, some semesters you’d make it, some you wouldn’t.
Note also that accounting is now a 150 unit/5 year curriculum.
@NCalRent thanks for the information! And does this mean that CSUMB will be impacted for business administration fall of 2017? And will eat bay be impacted as well for fall of 2017?
The link i shared above shows Monterrey will be impacted for transfer applicants next year. So, you’ll need a competiive GPA regardless of major.
I haven’t seen anything from EB on the topic. That doesn’t mean they won’t do it - it just means I haven’t seen anything.

Is CSU East Bay considerably better to get an Accounting Job out of college than CSU Bakersfield? Also is East Bay a better school than CSU Bakersfield for Accounting?
Quality of the programs is about the same - one is in Bakersfield, at the south end of the San Joaquin valley while the other is in the - well, East Bay. The Bay area has 100x the job market of Bakersfield, particularly in the tech field - but it is crowded, expensive and not for everyone. Bakersfield is more of an ag and oil economy, not much traffic and houses are reasonably priced but, not a very diverse economy and paid for the drought and low oil prices. It is more about where you want to be in school and after.
@NCalRent thanks for all this information? Also could you compare Monterrey Bay to those two as well please?
All the CSUs that offer accounting are fine - Monterrey too.
You really should apply to several, tour the campuses - then pick the one that works for you.
