Clemson’s been my dream school for many years now!
Thanks for input!
Also forgot to mention that I worked starting summer of Sophomore year
You definitely have a good shot.
Looks pretty good — see if you can get that GPA up a bit. Also, FYI, my daughter’s HS does not rank but Clemson uses some secret formula to guesstimate your rank! Found this out after we spoke with her Clemson admissions counselor.
Have you visited Clemson and participated in a organized tour? During our tour and talk with admissions, they mentioned that they like to know your interest level and that you remain connected with them. I would also find out who their recruiting coordinator is for Ohio. My son is from PA and when we toured they were very familiar with his high school and its strong reputation for academics. Making sure they understand that your high school is a top 10 school in Ohio should go a long way in framing in your 3.58 GPA.
I went on an organized tour my sophomore year and in my junior year I flew down to watch the clemson-auburn game. I’ll make sure to find out who my recruiting coordinator is so I can contract them! Thanks!
Contact* sorry @Zline forgot to tag you!
@sgunn3. My daughters HS doesn’t provide ranks on transcripts or to students. However they do rank internally and will release that rank to military academies and in situations like Clemson where merit money is tried to rank. I contacted by DD guidance counselor and found out my daughter was ranked in the top 7% so I asked him to include that in his recommendation so that Clemson would have that information.
You may want to check with you counselor and see if your school has a similar policy assuming the class rank would help you at Clemson or some other schools.
@Zline We are from PA too. Can you tell me who the recruiting coordinator is for PA? Where in PA are you from? We are from Philly suburbs and my kids go to private, college prep schools too. I’d appreciate any advice. Thanks!!!
@4n2yrs I would call admissions and ask about the recruiter. We just happened to have the former PA recruiter present at Spring Blitz. We are from Central Bucks County. The admissions person we had a chance to talk to actually asked us if all the people from Central Bucks traveled together since there were so many there for the Spring Blitz. He knew all 3 High Schools in our district and also knew that we had double digit students accepted and confirmed for fall 2018. All of this while standing in the hall talking to us with no notes. I was really surprised and pleased to see the attention to detail and the level of work they put in.
Have you visited? If not, I would highly recommend it. We had a great tour and had a chance to talk to a couple of professors from the school of business.
@Zline We did visit (twice, actually). What is Spring Blitz? Never heard of it. We are going to college fair to visit Clemson recruiter. We interviewed with two different admissions counselors when we were on our visits. We have kept in touch via e-mail. Applied on Aug. 1st. We are doing everything we can to give our triplets the best chance of all being admitted. All three of them have Clemson as their #1 choice by a WIDE margin. I am COMPLETELY stressed about my kids getting in because I know they will be devastated if they don’t. I have one at Mount Saint Joseph Academy and two at LaSalle College High School - great schools but they don’t rank and the potential for a monster GPA is limited. My greatest fear is a split decision where one or two get in and the third doesn’t. That would be absolutely horrible. My kids are extremely close and want to go to Clemson together. Ugh. Anyone know if the Admissions Office would give me a heads up if they are going to give us a split decision???
@4n2yrs = Google Spring Blitz Clemson 2018 and it will take you to the Clemson site with the details from last year. Imagine a campus tour on steroids and that is what Spring Blitz is. Lots of students, lots of tours, really a great way for Clemson to show off their university to a lot of students. If you don’t like big crowds, this is not for you. Both my son and I really enjoyed it.
We are in the same situation as far as class rank as Central Bucks does not provide. My son also applied on 8/1. Can’t answer your question on admissions heads-up, but have to believe that Clemson knows how strong of a program Mount Saint Joseph and LaSalle are.
Is Clemson coming to a college fair in PA?
@4n2yrs Thursday I am taking my Western PA daughter for Freshman move in. She is very excited.
I am really pulling for your 3 to all get in. As others have mentioned Clemson is really a stats school when it comes to admissions. Have your kiddos keep taking the tests until they get themselves in the range of 30 ACT and /or 1350 SAT. Also if they can get into those ranges or better then the OOS merit money comes into play. If they only have taken SAT have them take the ACT or vis versa.
Just by way of example my daughter took SAT first and got a 1390. Then took ACT and got a 32. She liked the ACT better and took the ACT again and got a 35. By getting that score she was able to get into Clemson, 15K merit money and was then ultimately accepted into the Calhoun honors college.
Being out of state makes admissions a little bit tougher but it they get in those ranges they should have a great shot. Obviously if they are going for engineering or nursing the numbers will need to be a bit higher.
@Zline - yes. Clemson will be at the PA Convention Center for a College Fair on Sunday, October 14th from 11A - 3P. It’s free to sign up. Here’s the link: https://www.nacacfairs.org/attend/national-college-fairs/philadelphia-national-college-fair/
@burghdad - thank you SO much!! My kids SAT scores are 1160, 1220 and 1270 so far. Looks like we have work to do. They are studying REALLY hard for the 8/25 SAT. Praying that pulls them up enough to make it in. Can’t stand the pressure.
I do not believe that the admissions office gives " heads up" regarding admission decisions. Here are stats provided by Clemson regarding 2017 admissions : SAT 1230 -1390 ( 25%-75%) 27-31 for ACT ( 25% -75%) 59% are in the top 10%, 83% are in the too 20% and 99% are in the top 50% of the class. 26,242 applied, 12,381 were accepted and 3, 649 enrolled. Majors also could me into play. Engineering, Nursing and several other majors are extremely competitive. I understand how badly your children want to attend, but it would be in your childrens best interest to also identify some reasonable safety schools.
I think you have a great shot.
