What are the chances I'll get into USC or UCLA?

Okay so my dream schools are USC or UCLA even though I live in Texas and I am currently a junior… I have a 3.7 weighted and a 4.1 unweighted GPA (top 15% of my class). I got a 1840 on my SAT, 650- CR, 680-M, 510-W. I know my writings terrible but I heard colleges don’t really care about the writing section anyways. Is this true? I also have done a total of 348 hours of community service hours since freshman year and have been in a varsity volleyball since freshman year too. I’ve been in a total of 4 clubs since freshman year and done lots of extra curriculars… So does anyone know if I have a good chance at these colleges? I’m taking the ACT in June so hopefully I can get a 30+. What should I do to improve my chances? Also I took APs my sophomore year but only one my junior year is that going to hurt my chances? Help please!

Sorry my grammar sucks, its late:(

You will need significantly higher test scores to be a viable applicant at either.

Take the SAT again, aim for 2100+, ACT, you’ll need 32 or so.

Apply anyhow and see how it goes - just be sure to have other viable options.

Good luck.

At the moment both schools are Reaches unless you get that ACT score closer to 32. Can you pay the OOS tuition for UCLA at $55K/year? Also you are not looking at much merit aid at USC if you cannot get your test scores up some you may be left with a huge undergrad cost so. Good Luck

Your dream colleges are really high reaches since your scores are not competitive. Remember that you are OOS and will be paying full fees at either school.

For both schools, you should have an unweighted GPA of at least around 3.9 or weighted GPA of around 4.3+ assuming you fulfilled the a-g course requirements. Also, keep the grades up in the first semester of your senior year. They will ask for it if you are a borderline applicant.

They are going to be high reaches for you, unless you have some profound hook.
