I got into Gabelli with a SAT score of 1770 and a GPA of 3.40 unweighted.

For third quarter, I got:
AP Literature: A
Psychology: A
AP Government: B+
AP Macroeconomics: C
Forensic Science: C
Precalculus: C

GPA for third quarter: 2.77 - 2.86 (I had a 3.7 first quarter and 3.5 second quarter)

After some internet research, I haven't been able to find anyone who actually got their acceptance revoked by Fordham/Gabelli, but what are the chances? Have you ever heard of anyone who got their admission revoked for academic reasons?

Hypothetically, I can boost that AP Macro grade to a C+ and Forensic Science grade to a C+ or B while definitely maintaining my Lit/Psychology/Gov grades. But Precalculus is probably staying at a C.

I also have not heard of anyone being rejected due to GPA slipping a bit during Sr year. Of course, if it slipped dramatically, to D’s and F’s that would be different.

You are still looking at achieving well over 3.0 for the year, and barely below an un-weighted 3.0 for the semester. Since 3 of your classes are AP, that would give you a GPA well above 3.0 for the semester.

But, as always, the best way to find out admission information is to ask Fordham admissions. I understand you may be hesitant to do this, but you could call and ask without giving your name.

This comes up every year. Anecdotally, around the country, it takes a wipe out of D’s and F’s to get revoked. Probation is another matter.

Fordham will ask every admitted and enrolled student to provide their senior year grades and full official transcript at the end of the school year. They review it.

Getting in with a 1770 SAT is lucky in today’s terms.

My STRONG suggestion is you buckle down and get to work and stop whatever it is you are doing that is distracting you from school. Be it personal issues, facebook, partying, being lazy or whatever.

Fordham is a strong academic school. The workload is heavy and the grading can be severe. You better get it together before September or you wont last long.

In my kid’s freshmen year some kids blew out by Thanksgiving after mid terms. Fordham called the parents and said, “Come and get them.”

SeasonsOfLove, I agree with what sovereigndebt said (I usually do). You got in just over the line. If you fall below 3.4 to, say 3.0 you may get a warning letter or, if less that 3.0 you may get the super rare Immediate Probation that might put your status at risk. Many seniors ease up on the gas once they get accepted into college, but no school of strong academic repute will take someone who has completely blown their last semester. You are fortunate: there are MANY kids with better grades than 3.4 who were rejected by Fordham; don’t kiss away this wonderful opportunity.

You said “Hypothetically, I can boost that AP Macro grade to a C+ and Forensic Science grade to a C+ or B while definitely maintaining my Lit/Psychology/Gov grades.” I strongly suggest you change that hypothetically into I WILL

Sorry, SeasonOfLove, but I agree with both sovereigndebt and RamRay. You were lucky to get in! The average SAT at Gabelli for class of 2018 is 1980 and a GPA 3.8!! (not sure if weighted or not…) You must have some great ECs. Get a Math tutor, not only for getting that Precalc grade up, but for getting prepared for Gabelli Finite and Calculus. Most of the incoming freshman are taking Calc as HS seniors now, and will be retaking it again at Fordham.

Stop getting distracted by your phone (my daughter’s vice) and get those Cs up to B minuses. Meet with your teachers during a study hall or after school and get guidance on what will be emphasized on quizzes, tests. The interest will usually transfer into goodwill for participation, which may be the deciding factor between B- and a C. Then your worries are gone… Good luck.

Final grades for senior year:
AP Literature: A+
Psychology: A
Astronomy: A
Business Management: A
European History (Elective): A
AP Government: B+
Forensic Science: B
Precalculus: C
AP Macroeconomics: D

Senior year GPA: 3.108 unweighted (probably around 3.30-3.35 weighted)

I would not expect getting above a 3.0 to put you on probation, even less get you thrown out. The only thing that I can see being a problem is that D in AP Macro. However, I don’t know a lot about fordham, so I could be wrong.
Just to be warned, if you struggled a lot in pre-calc, Calc will not be easy for you and failing it will screw up your ENTIRE four years if you are in most math/sci/eng majors.

AP Macro was actually one of the best ideas ever, despite the D grade. It helped me realize that I will probably not be happy working in a career involving a STEM-related or business major. I honestly took the class in the first place to “get me feet wet” and see how much I would like (or hate…) it. I’ve already informed Fordham and they have allowed me to switch to a major in the humanities.

But yeah, I still need a good GPA. I’m already independently working on my math skills over the summer. No classes. Just books, online resources and self motivation.
