You’ll probably get in, whether you apply ED or RD.
@esimpnoxin Actually, we don’t know that (hell, based on the past couple of years, we clearly don’t know anything. Many of the results are surprising if we take CC chance me thread stats at face value)…Emory seems to have gotten tough when it comes to the GPA, test score discrepancy (and for an admit, that test score is maybe slight above average or on par with the mean). Also, seems many Emory applicants have those types of extracurriculars, but I would honestly try to sell all of the music related stuff as they could potentially end up with a music scholarship.
@pastalover0495 : Are you actually interested in math (enough to maybe do USAMO) or were the SAT II scores mainly for credentialing? Be honest. It is just that selective private school applicant pools are full of those w/leadership positions in ECs (The schools claiming that they are special in regard to drawing these types are lying), so often having that extra level of dedication to/academic engagement with a particular discipline can make your odds less random. I think Emory’s adcoms are attempting to screen for more intellectual engagement congruent with where the school wants to go in terms of campus climate in the future…there is a lot of evidence that administrators/faculty are trying to enhance the intellectual climate on campus. And, needless to say, admissions has a lot to do with it. You can admit the seemingly well-rounded resume “whores” or you can try to admit reasonably well-rounded folks who are truly passionate about their interests and learning for something other than the resume or transcript. An interesting essay can also do it. Just make sure you use it to demonstrate your passions effectively. Try to be genuine.
I think @bernie12 hit the nail on the head, echoing what he said, I think teacher recommendations and your essay will make or break your acceptance in my opinion.
Your GPA is rather sub-par (even if it is from a extremely rigorous high school), and your test scores are nothing stunning (although congratulations on the 800 on Math 2) But I do think you have quite a few things going for you, craft a well thought essay and good luck to you!
