What are the chances of getting in if you DIDNT get a likely letter?

does anyone know how many RD likely letters they send out ... and how many they accept out of those who didnt get one?

Since dartmouth is such a relatively small school, im worried that after all the ED acceptances, and RD Likely Letters, theres not much hope for everyone else =[ =[

Many will get in who didn't get likely letters. That said, about 11% will get in this year and that includes ED with an admit rate of 25% plus, so it will be a very tough year.

only a very small percent of the admitted class got likely letters.

Chillax, most of us who are here did not get likely letters.

haha yeahh ... it just seems like a lot of ppl got likely letters from this forum. all the CC users with insanse stats make me feel like i suck at life lol

erl196, I think this has been mentioned but less admits that attend get likely letters than those that do. I think they are given to applicants who have something unique. For example, being part of the Dartmouth family already but with high credentials-- ex., a legacy or someone with a sibling already there. Or, an applicant that has something very unique that D wants. The larger percentage of admits don't get likelies.

Don't know the percent, but it's not "very small."

I think that it's pretty much luck of the draw- if they decide to admit you and your file was reviewed early enough in the process, they send out a letter. If they pick up your file the second week of March, maybe not.
That said, all six schools that admitted my son sent likely letters, including Dartmouth. Two schools didn't admit him.
I didn't think my son was anything "special" to Dartmouth, although he was given a small merit award to reduce the self-help part of his package. I've heard that most students don't get those. So maybe I'm wrong about my "top of the pile" theory.

eri, you're not getting a likely letter has no bearing on whether you are ultimately accepted or not. I've been on this forum for three years now, and every year people ask the same question.

hmm does dartmouth send likely letters to internationals then?

I haven't gotten a single likely letter from any school I applied to, so I'm getting really worried.
It seems like Dartmouth sent quite a few likelies...

My D has not gotten a single NORMAL MAIL OR EMAIL from any school she applied to!! each time she has some kind of mails is because she called first or email them asking for informations, otherwise the mail boxes are completely EMPTY!! and i'm sure she is not alone, just here on CC people are exceptionnal ( on 22000 applicants only 500 are exceptionnal and they are all here talking with us on CC!!) The majority of applicants are average and the ivies are going to take some average kids too! they need us too!

^
Sorry to burst your bubble. But unless you are URM or athlete or legacy, an average kid will NOT get in the Ivies.

This is my first post on this site but I felt that I should respond to Wannadartmouth. My S was not a URM, recruited athlete nor is he a legacy. He applied RD only and did not receive a likely letter. He is a '12 in his second term at D and loves it there.

Well, depends on what you consider to be "average"--an average student and an average Dartmouth applicant are two very different things.

Regardless, I definitely agree with what you are saying. With an acceptance rate of 11%, Dartmouth has no reason or need to admit average applicants.

^
Totally agree with what you are saying. Average US kid will just be really average while average Dartmouth applicant would most likely to be the top 10% of the whole U.S.

LaVie was probably saying average in terms of the Dartmouth/Ivy applicant pool.

Yea like maybe average as in me- 33 Act, 700+ on three sat II's but only one really high sat II lol, solid extracurriculars.
However, i never really see people like me get into those schools, not this year at least.
Any of you guys check stanford's EA thread? That is SCARY.
