lets just say someone i know has a 3.4gpa and 2270, SAT. and they got into UCSB but got rejected to UCSD, what are their chances of getting in?

it’s possible! not too likely, but possible. and who knows, with the crazy uc admissions this year, anything seems plausible…

what about like, a percentage chance? 20 percent 30?

I’d say it is 22.754%… or no, actually it’s more like 22.755%

very small but possible

low SAT? 10 char

what about vice versa? someone with a solid GPA (4.44) but a less-than-average SAT score (1920)?

high gpa alone has a much better chance than high sat alone, for who knows what reason.

seems like they’re just encouraging kids to take fluffball AP classes to jack up their GPAs.

You have a shot, albeit not a great one. All depends on your extracurriculars and GPA.

I definitely think that test scores should have more weight than they do now. It’s standardized, so comparing these scores makes much more sense than comparing GPA, which can vary greatly (from a 2.5 to a 4.0), depending on what school you go to.

Too bad the UC’s don’t see it in this case.

@aceaites agree. looking at the UCSD acceptance/waitlist/rejected threads was depressing. felt like i shouldn’t have pushed myself so hard in school when i could have cruised through.

though of course i know that i gained a lot more that way. its just not a good feeling when the UCs are rewarding that sort of behavior.
