What are the chances that my UCSB admission will be revoked?

Hello everyone,

I'm a transferring pre-math major hoping to attend UCSB. Before spring semester, my UC GPA is 3.5. Spring semester did not go well for me. I was taking Calc 2 and General Physics. I passed Physics with a C, and there's a HUGE possibility that I will get a D in Calc 2.

I already talked to my math professor and told her about my circumstances. We had five exams and I was averaging about 78% on them, and then the final exam came around. It was pretty damn difficult. Due to a combination of stress and sleep deprivation, I bombed the final exam. I needed a 58% on the final exam in order to pass the class with a C. I doubt I scored a 58%. Many of my classmates felt the same way about the final, and we all tried to talk to our professor. We all felt that the level of difficulty of the final exam was uncalled for. Heck, a guy who got a Financial Mathematics degree from another country also felt like it was difficult (he averaged about 98% on the regular exams). Unfortunately, she's VERY strict and refuses to curve the grades.

I already got a $2500 scholarship that will be awarded to me when I transfer to UCSB (awarded yearly until I get my degree). I also got to be a finalist for a UCSB scholarship for $7000 (awarded yearly as well).

So many things are on the line, and it will crush me if I have to stay another year at my CC because of a bad final exam.

And, if my math professor doesn't pass me and I don't register for a calc 2 class over the summer, my GPA will take a dive. It's pretty difficult to get a calc 2 class over the summer since priority registration started about a month ago. I registered for a calc 3 summer class thinking I will be able to pass calc 2 this semester. If I don't get a calc 2 class during the summer, my GPA will be pretty low by fall semester. Assuming my admission gets revoked, I'm scared that UCSB may be out of reach when I reapply.

Any thoughts and suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you all.

Nobody out here knows your chances. The people that make the decisions know. Once you get your final grades it would be a smart idea to contact UCSB and see what they think. Hopefully you will be fine, but if there is an issue then by contacting them right away there might still be a chance to take a makeup class if you end up getting a D and it matters. If you wait until they see your grades later in the summer it will be too late to do anything. Its your choice…

The moment you get your final grades, contact the admissions department to explain them what happened immediately. From there, it’s up to them to decide whether or not to revoke your admission. That’s pretty much all you can do.

Good luck.
