What are the chances?

Hi guys,

I go to a really competitive high school. My G.P.A. (unweighted) is like 3.2 and my SAT score is like 1800. I'm not really smart, and I'm taking only 1 AP (AP Language and Composition) this year, my junior year. My sophomore year, I took chemistry honors and failed the class- having to retake it over the summer.

I'm part of a few clubs, including speech and debate and Future Business Leaders of America. I do a lot of volunteering, and I believe my hours have totaled up to around 400 over the last few years. I did one online internship as well, and taught at summer camps.

I took AP Psychology at a nearby community college and received an A in the class over the summer.

Next year, I am taking two AP's (AP Calc AB and AP Gov./Econ.). I might do an internship this summer, otherwise I also plan on taking community college courses and attending NSLC for medicine as well.

I'm being quite blunt about myself- I'm not searching for sympathy or false hope. From what you guys know, is there any chance I can get into a good college? I live in California and I refer instate, but out of state will also work for me.

Here are some of the schools that I want to get into:
UC Irvine
UC Santa Cruz
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo
Cal Poly Pomona
University of Washington, Seattle

Do you think I have a chance? If not, what are some other schools I could research and hopefully get into instead?

Thanks so much for reading this and your time in helping me out. I really really appreciate it.

UCI will be a reach, UCSC and CPP matches, Cal Poly and UWA probably out of reach.
You need to find more schools.
Start by looking at Colleges that Change Lives. Some of them would be too competitive for your stats, but quite a few would work.
http://www.ctcl.org/colleges/map</a>
Look into the Western Exchange program: <a href=“Save On College Tuition | Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE)”>http://www.wiche.edu/wue</a> (apply early)
Also look at UPortland, USeattle, UDenver, Willamette, Lewis and Clark, - all reachy but possible. LMU and Chapman may be possible, USD and USF if affordable (bad FA), Whittier, Linfield, Pacific Lutheran, Carroll of Montana - all of these would be matches.
Don’t forget to apply to UCR and UCM.
Among the CSU’s, look into Sonoma and Chico, especially if you can get into Chico Honors.

Wow! Thank you so much. I’ve heard about some of these programs/schools but now I can look into them in depth.

A few questions:
I’ve heard of some colleges from Colleges that Change Lives, but I didn’t know of that title until now. What are some advantages of attending one of these schools?

Also, I hadn’t heard much of the Western Exchange Program either. What would be some advantages of participating in this program?

Thanks so much for your help, I really appreciate it!
