What are the chances?

I am a 16 year old international student. I've got my eye set on Deerfield, Andover and Hotchkiss for senior year in Fall 2011. My current syllabus is GCSE O level and I would like to know my chances of getting in. I come from a reputable school in my country and I'm in the Basketball and Track&Field team. My grades are good(above average) and I play the guitar and piano. I'm in a leadership board and i have clocked in many hours of community service. What are my chances? Any recommendations for other schools? Thank you so much for your help:)

I don’t know if they accepted senior year students, I don’t know if you should apply for junior repeat, because that might help the chance a bit.
I’m not here to make you feel bad or anything, but unless you want to be rejected by all three (these school are really good i know, but admission is a crapshoot for everyone, trust me) , you need safety schools, ones that you know that they would want you since you are at the top of the applicant pool. I’m an int’l appie and I got into 2 of the schools i applied this year, one is my safety and the other one is Deerfield.

would milton academy and hill school make good safety schools? just checking. are my odds of getting in higher if i apply for senior year or for jnr repeat?:)

Dunno about Hill but Milton is definitely not a safety school, their admission is very competetive…

All the schools rarely take senior students. And I remember schools like Gronton clearly state that they DON’T right?
Email the school before applying.

I strongly suggest applying as a junior repeat. Do you want to go to a US college? Then, if you come as a senior, you need to apply RIGHT AWAY. All your transcripts are from your old school, and I’m sure a 3-month prep school education doesn’t help that much.

Here’s a guy from Singapore. PM him/her.

um, hi? haha nice to meet you i guess.
I go to Phillips Exeter Academy.
so you didn’t apply this year?

okay i’ll try to help you as best as i can but don’t take my word for anything because i’m not really sure about the admissions stuff anyway.

the application is pretty self-explanatory; just fill it in with what it asks you to. for extracurriculars i have piano, percussion, dance, volleyball, student council president. but you don’t really have to be overloaded. as long as you have sports and something you feel really passionate about you should be fine. my ssat was 99 and i’m a straight A student, but grades don’t matter as much as you think they do. most people i know are average students, like 85 on their tests and solid B’s and A’s in school. what really matters is your personality and to be confident, so the interview and essay are pretty important. i don’t know what my hook was… write about something you feel strongly about that also reflects the kind of person you are.

and don’t worry about too many awards or math class levels… i’ve followed the public school system my whole life and so have most people i know. for awards i have some for various instruments and stuff but what really matters is the kind of person you are.

good luck!

cometexpress, I don’t think you can apply as a senior. Senior year in the US basically means JC 2 in Singapore. In order to apply as a senior, you would have need to complete your JC 1 year. I have asked, and the schools require that you complete the previous grade before applying to the following one (at least, this what was told to me when I asked at one of the schools). Since you’re in grade 10 now, you can only apply for grade 11(junior). Sucks repeatingafter almost finishing the year in Singapore huh? I know, but it’s the reality.

as others said, applying as a senior = quite unlikely. you might want to look into UWCs (united world colleges), though!

milton is by NO MEANS a safety school. hahahahaha… the very thought of that… :D

hill is one of the two schools, so it’s probably not a good choice for safety either
