What are the commons ??

I am a junior starting to make a list of school. My list now contains:

Dartmouth
Bowdoin
Brandeis
Vassar
Lafayette
Hamilton
St. Lawrence

What do you guys think are the common points of these colleges besides academic excellence ?? Can you guys suggest me some other schools that have the same characteristics ?? What other Ivy League are similar to these schools ?

A liberal arts aspect? any other ivy league wont fit in the category except brown.

Why did you think of applying to those schools? What speaks to you about them? Once you can identify that, you and others can more productively work on honing your list.

At first, as far as I know, they have good social sciences departments, especially economics and sociology and history which two out of three are gonna be my majors. Secondly, they are not enormous schools in size like Ohio State or other state colleges. Thirdly, they are all liberal art colleges, except Dartmouth but I have heard Dartmouth is the closest to liberal art ones (is it true ??). I mean at this point I am leaning toward liberal art colleges but I want to make an exception for Ivy League schools and top universities.

How about the social life at these colleges ? I am not so sure about this aspect.

Any suggestion to hone my list ??

Any suggestion ??

Any suggestions for me ???

Can someone leave some comments, suggestions so that I can hone my list ?

How about researching various colleges that are good for your major. You can read about different ones, and decide whether you might like to go there. Make note of whether you prefer colleges in the city, or rural. Public or private. Large or Small. What kinds of businesses might you like to be near your college choice. How are the reviews? (Students Review- Google.). Are the people friendly? Does the colleges mission and goals fit your personality, and criteria?

Just a few things to think about. Dont create your college list based on where people from your area normally go, or where people who talk to you say you should look at.

Which Ivy do you guys think have the best social departments, especially economics, sociology and history and also have the best good social life ( I mean like at least something fun going on like parties (I don’t care about alcohols, don’t like it), sports, clubs…) ??

University of Pennslyvania strikes a few bells.

How about Princeton and Yale ??

How are the social lives at Princeton and Yale ??

Among Ivy Leagues and top universities like MIT, Duke,… which ones have the best social life and those social science departments ?

Any input please ??

Duke has a great social life although it is quite different from the schools you listed.

not an ivy, but Wesleyan is fairly similar to those schools, its academics are excellent and the social life is pretty good.

If someone is going to recommend Wesleyan, I’ll have to recommend Brown (practically has to be done when DMouth is mentioned too, although the schools are quite different. From an applicants point of view, they’re less different).

Thanks for the input. I should take a look at Wesleyan.

How about among those Ivies like Yale, Dartmouth, Princeton, UPenn ?? What are distinguished about those 4 ? I just want to give a shot at one or two Ivies. I know my chance is slim but who knows.

Brown and Wesleyan are both Open Curriculum schools (although Brown is slightly more in that direction).

There are a lot of unique things about Brown, I’d start with my explanation of the curriculum and university-college over on the Brown forum–

Thanks. How are the economics, sociology, and history departments at Brown ? I have always been imagining Brown having good political science departments of political sciences or journalism or international relationship…
