What are the difference?

What are the difference between an regular applicant to and transfer applicant? Today, I told one of my University that I've been to as an Visiting Student at another college. After saying that, they said they'll put my Fall 2012 application down as transferring student.

This is the actual notification they'd sent me.

"Since you graduated from high school and have been taking college courses, you will be considered a transfer applicant. You will be able to transfer your credits from ----- College. We will actually need a transcript from Hunter with your Fall grades on it before you get a decision".

"We will actually need a transcript from Hunter with your Fall grades on it before you get a decision"

The point is I won't be getting my visiting student transcript by may or june 2012, and my regular decision to college should be out by Marth-April. Does that mean that they won't be revealing my applicant will I hand in the transcript, which will be out in may to late June.

The definition of a transfer student varies between schools. However, what they do have in common is that like the school you cited, they only count post-HS college courses when determining whether you are a fr or transfer applicant.

Your post doesn’t make too much sense to me since from your posting history, I see that you’re a HS sr right now applying to colleges. What am I missing?

I graduated in 06/2011. I’m currently taking classes at Hunter College as an “Visiting student” for this semester, while applying to four year private colleges for fall 2012.

The term I don’t get is that, one of the University decided to put me as an “transfer Student” because I told them, I’m currently taking classes at Hunter college as a visiting student. But the thing is; Visiting students don’t count as matriculate in a college, they just there to take some classes.

What I’m trying to depict here is, since I’m not a matriculate at Hunter College, I’m not a transfer student when I apply to a four private college.

Thanks for your help

I’m afraid they will postpone by acceptances letter, when they said this to me “We will actually need a transcript from Hunter with your Fall grades on it before you get a decision”. I can only get my transcript till june 2012, and by that time I should be getting started at my four year private institute.

This. The school doesn’t care if you matriculated at Hunter or not, you’re taking courses there and getting credit, for their definition of a transfer applicant, that’s all that counts.

You need to read the definitions of fr and transfer applicants for all of the schools you’re applying to. And the number of credits/courses they talk about are usually the number when you matriculate next fall. So, for instance, if a school says that taking 15 credits of post-HS college coursework makes you a transfer, and you’re taking 15 credits now, that means they will recognize you as a transfer applicant.

are you enrolled at Hunter college? If so, then some colleges will consider you a transfer student, regardless of what Hunter college calls you. If you are only auditing classes, i.e sitting in on them, but not taking them for credit, then you can apply as a new freshman. Beware of not reporting classes you have taken for credit, as colleges all check a central clearinghouse for all students to make sure they are not hiding previous registrations…

So guys, I won’t be getting my acceptance letter from them between march - May? I feel depressed. sigh…

Thanks for the information guys. I think I need to call the administration office tomorrow.

most transfer decisions are made AFTER colleges knows how many new freshman will be matriculating . If there are more kids accepting offers of acceptance than anticipated then that could reduce the number of openings for transfer students. And colleges wont know that until until after national decision day- may 1.
