What are the dorms like?

I'm seriously considering Northeastern, and I have heard a few good things about the school as well as some negative stuff. I was wondering, does anyone have a general idea of how the dorm situation is? & What the dorms look like?

Thanks to anyone with answers. :)

When I visited we saw the dorms. As usual freshman dorms sucked, little concrete walled cells. The good news is they are right there on campus, close to everything. Upper classman dorms are fab.

Freshman dorms really arent that bad. Me and my roommate had tons of space and we had the cafeteria right downstairs..it was great!

depends on ur dorm. Stetson east, stetson west, speare, and white are typical freshamn dorms. Honors kids live in kennedy which is suite style and NEU is currently building an new dorm in the west village for freshman honors students thats apartment style. some freshman get lucky and are placed in the fairwoods (319 huntington) and thats also apartment style and sophmores live there. I signed up for international housing so i get to live in loftman which is suite atyle. i think melvin, smith, kerr, and light are apartment style also, but i'm not sure but i do know that they are freshman dorms. This year a lot of freshman got placed in the YMCA, but i heard crappy things about there and smith hall.

Upperclass housing is sweet though. if u ever seen the wet village then u know what i mean.

The dorm room I stayed in (stetson west) was a double, and I had fairly enough room. They give you a bed, desk, and a dresser. In Stetson, they even had a mirror/medicine cabinet. I don't know if all the rooms will have this. Each person gets a closet. I noticed that there were also small cabinets just above the closet as well. Only negative that I can really come up with is that there's no AC. Positive: the dorms in Stetson East and West are keyless. XD Bathrooms were clean and fairly large too. I think there were 2 to a floor. There was like five stalls, 4 showers with a mini area to changing, and one bathtub.

The upperclassmen dorms are awesome. I think we went into one of the apartments in West Village G. One of the rooms, presum. the living room, was surrounded in windows and had a beautiful view of Boston.

As mentioned before, there's going to be a new freshmen honors building. Maybe you'll luck out if you have to SAT scores and get placed in there.

The freshman dorms are actually pretty nice...especially in compared to other freshman dorms I've seen. They're pretty spacious and theres storage space. The ones that are not as nice are "economy triples" which are doubles that they turn into triples by adding furniture. There are some single dorms (kennedy-honors students get these). And 319 is the only freshman dorm that has apartment style housing. So if you luck out and get that, you're in a good situation.

And I'd like tp reitterate the fact that upperclassman housing is amazing. And you're considered an upperclassman sophomore year, so 4 years of beautiful apartments is worth living in the freshman dorms for one.

My freshman dorm here is amazing, but i got really lucky. I have a double which is like two big singles with a little hallway between. I've heard it's the biggest room in the building. Other people down the hall have doubles that are half the size of mine. Most freshman dorms are not terrible, but nothing special. The upperclass appartments are huge.

Ian, so you ended up deciding on NU. I remember reading your agonizing posts between Suny Bing and NU. I guess you made a good choice. You sound happy. The room sounds great. Good luck. Oh, did NU end up giving you merit aid, if you don't mind my asking? My son is planning on applying.

Northeastmom, yes I decided on Northeastern and I love it. I'm very happy with my decision. They gave me $11,000/year in merit aid. Most of my friends here have gotten pretty large scholarships. I think they're fairly generous with merit aid.

What is a average amount of aid NU offers? Does it come in loans, grants, or through student employment?
