Since i live abroad, it gets pretty painful for me to carry stuff around to nyc. thus, i want to reduce my luggages as much as possible, but i still want all the essential things i need. please give me advices or post what you are going to bring

at this moment, my list is:

clothes (is it better to brings suits too?)
laptop
blanket
blankets
medication

haha. i am already running short and i dont want to think at this moment.
please help me!

i have a pretty detailed list of what all im going to need when i get there, but i havent split it up into what im bringing vs what im getting when i get there yet. but if you want it message me and i can email it to you (three pages...too long to post =P)

If I were you, I'd just bring my clothes, including some business stuff since you're a Sternie, bedding, and computer stuff, including a camera. Just be prepared to go on a shopping spree once you get here - you'll need stuff like laundry detergent, school supplies, and maybe bowls and eating utensils and stuff. You can put the things you won't need over the summer into storage for the next year.

Yeah, that list is ridiculous. No one brings, or needs, all that stuff. My advice is to bring your clothes, your laptop, and toiletry essentials. If you have room bring bedding so you'll have them for the first night. Everything else can be bought at K-Mart which is an easy walk from campus. For those who are driving, you can bring pretty much whatever you need. When you get your roomie info, you two can discuss who's bringing what so you don't end up with two tv's, two dvd players, two mini-fridges, two microwaves, etc.

p.s. Don't forget duct tape and that sticky stuff you use for posters.

this question is kind of future, but at the end of each school year, you have to clear out the dorm right? do most people take their stuff home and bring them back once new school year starts? or is there a company or something else that can store things over the summer? if so, what are the rates like?

Yes, jhpark, you need to take everything with you when the lease runs out. CollegeBoxes provides very reasonable rates for storing stuff, in my opinion. I've never used them, but they seem to work for the vast majority of people.

A walk to KMart depends on where you live, but I'd say it's about 5-15 minutes.

KMart is around Broadway and 8th St. which is like five minutes from the Washington Square dorms if that's where you are, and not much further than that from Union Square. Very close.

if you are not living in a dorm with a fridge (such as Goddard), do you recommend getting a smal fridge? or do you think the community fridge is good enough to serve the purpose?

If you do that, I'm pretty sure you run the risk of getting your food picked.

Apparently, you can rent a mini fridge from campus.....I personally prefer to have my own fridge, with my own bacteria....same thing with the microwave. All my life I've wanted my own microwave--with a popcornn button. Except moving that in and out....tough decisions :) hehe
