Hey guys, so what are the 'good' ecs for MIT that can stop you from worrying so much?

-Usamo
-Intel STS

-Hmmt...

...

What are the tons of other ones?
Thanks, :)

All you listed were awards, not ec’s. First of all, you shouldn’t participate in certain ec’s just because it would look good for MIT. You should do it because you have a passion for them and you simply love doing them. After all, you are person not a robot trying to perfect yourself for the school of your dreams. Nonetheless, that answer probably didn’t satisfy your curiosity, so here are some “cliche” ec’s for MIT applicants:

Robotics Team
Math Team
Chess Club
Science Olympiad
Science Research

Are you saying if non of these “cliche” in your resume, you won’t get a chance? most of my son’s EC are outside of his school. He volunteers every Sat morning in a local community school and devoted a lot of time at the school band and church youth group involvement. Can you advise? Thanks.

All the e.c.s you just stated are cliche. However, what really matters isn’t necessarily the e.c. itself, but the path to it – the rich detail about it. If your robotics team adventures involved you solely sitting at a computer and being a supporting member of the club, its more cliche than lets say, you led the team to a national competition while winning multiple awards of your own.

the ones that you enjoy most!

What gethenian said. I’m not sure how looking like the stereotype will really help you, anyway, assuming that a large chunk of other applicants fit. What makes you you?

I’ll note that I participated in exactly 0 stereotypical pre-MIT ECs.

Thanks for the replies, guys.
And yet I was not asking for these ‘cliche’ programs merely because they’d look good on my application, but was asking to find interesting activities.
I already have a profound passion for math and science, and was wondering which enjoyable competitions/activities were around me because i just moved in and sort of lack information.
Nonetheless, thanks for the advices :)
