What are the graduate school prospects of the Ross School of business?

Hi, I applied to the Ross Business program at UMich Ann Arbor. I read in magazines that it is considered the third best in the nation, next to Wharton and Harvard. And is tied with UC Berkeley. (Of course rankings tend to vary from one mag to another).

But I was wondering, realistically, are there good prospects for graduate school coming out of Ross? If I desire to attend graduate school at someplace like Columbia or Brown or UPenn or Cornell, will I have chances if I maintain good grades in the program?

Also, suppose I has been admitted to UPenn for a degree in International Studies and Politics. Comparitively, is the degree of Ross School more a prestigious degree?

Rankings fluctuate from year to year, and vary between different magazines and publications, so take them into consideration but never base your decision entirely on them. That being said, Ross is one of the top business schools in the country for undergrad, less so for grad school (but nonetheless very well regarded).

Yes you will have a good chance at those schools coming out of Ross, although I'm not sure what graduate program at Brown (which lacks a business school) would interest you after Business School?

No. The Penn degree is more prestigious. As a Ross undergrad, you will most likely be drowned by the competition for jobs from Ivy League grads (which includes Penn), +Stanford, MIT, Chicago etc. grads. You do have good prospects coming out of Ross--but more in line with grads from NYU, Berkeley etc. A Penn degree (top 5 overall school in the country + Ivy League) will generally serve you better in both the short-run and the long-run. I'm not saying you can't do the same with a Ross degree, you certainly can--but you will have an easier time getting ahead with Penn on ur resume.
The above comment is only in response to your question regarding 'prestige.' Ultimately, you should choose the school that you feel most comfortable with and fits you best.

In the sophisticated adult world (i.e. academia and exclusive industry), Michigan is as prestigious as any of the Ivies save HYP.

In terms of job placement, Michigan (LSA and Engineering) holds its own with the likes of Brown, Cornell and Penn (again, LSA and Engineering). Ross is more effective than any LSA or Engineering college save HYPSM. The only undergraduate Business program with better placement than Ross is Wharton.
