like the top 10.

I've heard that UChicago is really, mind-killing-ly impossible...

It's also my first choice. Call me a masochist ;)

The typical ones: MIT, Chicago, Caltech, Reed, Berkeley, Cornell, etc. (not in order)

Olin College of Engineering. Extremely fun, extremely challenging.

Princeton has terrible grade deflation...

i have several friends who are at harvard, and they havent found it as rigorous as it lets on, and actually found our high school to be more full of pressure and intensity.

i have heard that cornell is the most rigorous of all the ivies

my friend goes to U Chicago. they made shirts that said in small print "if i wanted to get A's i would have gone to" and then in large print "HARVARD".

Swarthmore

"The University of Chicago, where the only thing that goes down on you is your GPA."

on their website they have their unoffical motto, "The University of Chicago: where fun goes to die."

UofChicago. 'Nuff said.

UChicago is pretty tough, but I think Reed is academically strenuous as well.

Johns Hopkins deserves to be on the list as well.

Swarthmore: "It would have been an A anywhere else..."

Harvey Mudd, Caltech, Olin, MIT among the tech schools...

I would also put in a vote for Deep Springs and the service academies for being rigorous via their combination of academics and lifestyle.

The following schools are not known to give high grades unless the student really shows they have thoroughly mastered the materials :

1) Grove City College in Pennsylvania
2) Babson College in Massachusetts
3) Cooper Union in New York City
4) Caltech in Pasadena, CA
5) Hillsdale College in Michigan

I hasten to add also that the above list of colleges I enumerated were based on the opinions of students themselves, past and present.
