What are the odds?

How many will be auditioning for Webster’s MT program this year? How many will be offered a place, and how many does Webster expect to yield for the incoming class? Will there be a there a waiting list? (Plaidman, are you there?) Thanks!

mizlyn,

I hope someone can answer your questions. I feel bad that I can not. I have been out of the loop for auditions for awhile as my Ss are juniors currently. They have developed so much over these last 3 years. THey love love Webster. Best wishes and hope your D/S breaks both legs.

Thank you Sue. I've always enjoyed hearing about your sons! I'd guess that the people in the know on this are still on the audition trail this week, so somebody will eventually get back to us. I'd be surprised if the numbers hadn't gone up even higher this year.
My D claims that she had a very interesting and intense audition for Webster - she can't really tell how it went, but she's quite intrigued!

My daughter is a freshman this year. She loves it. I'm afraid I don't have your answers either about how many. I am sure he is hot on the audition trail.
I'm glad your daughter had an interesting audition I know my d felt the same way after her audition last year. That's where she knew that she would love Webster if she got in and luckily she did! Let me know if you have any questions or I can put you in touch with my D.

marianne - if she gets some good news, I'm sure that my D would certainly love to be in touch with yours! I'm glad to hear that Webster is so right for your daughter. But, at this point, it could be a long wait ...

Yes, the month of March in particular is really long and you will know the pattern of the postman/woman like never before.

I wanted to share the info I heard from the admissions office: Webster will audition about 400 students combined for their MT, Regional Theatre (acting), Stage Management, and Design/Tech programs. They hope for a class of about 50 from that pool. Their brochure says that no more than 30 will enter the 2 acting programs, 5 will enter Stage Management, and 15 will enter Design/Tech.

The office says that the numbers are somewhat flexible, depending on the faculty's choices. They also said that all notices would go out in early April.

I am glad you got some answers. We'll keep our fingers crossed. I can tell you that the Freshman class this year (MT and Regional Theatre) had 18.

Keep in touch!

Thanks much, Marianne. So this year's class was on the smaller side. It sounds like the school may have chosen not to draw from the waitlist to fill it up.

You're right - checking the mail has become a daily event at our house! And it's still February!!!

We will told that the class was small last year because the talent pool just wasn't there.

Greetings,

I have been away from CC a while, so I have missed this Thread. Even though it is late, I thought I would write a response.

This year has been a very strong audition year for many, many schools. As a result, many of the previous predictions might not hold true. Indeed, Webster did have a smaller entering class this past Fall due to the nature of the talent pool available last year. We decided a few years ago not to have a Wait List. We accept a class based on the specific year's application pool and look forward to greeting those students that select us.

It is hard to give hard answers to how many are accepted and how many show up since the "yield rate" can vary so much. We did see over 500 auditions this year either through appointment/application, walk-ins while on The Unifieds, or through intensive call backs at group auditions. We also realize the number of schools prospective students apply to has increased and it is not unusual to discover students have applied to more than 10 schools. That does make the selection/choice situation interesting for both the prospective student and the school/program.

I hope this makes sense.

All I can say is that each school is careful in making this subjective decision. There are choices to be made and that is just what it is, a choice. Please keep moving forward with your dreams since there are many paths to achieve that goal. For those of you accepted to the school of your choice, aren't we brilliant?

Good luck. I hope I have provided some information. Indeed, our goal at Webster would be to have an entering class of around 25 in Performance.
