basically i took this precalc/trig class spring 2009. withdrew from it. then i took it this summer and got a dreaded F. sort of controversial why i got it [ browser crashed which didnt allow me to reopen ] . so what can i do now?? the office is closed for today until tomorrow.

if i retook the class at a different college, would it be beneficial ?

Just sign up for the class again next semester or so. Your school might have a restriction on the 3rd retake so if that is the case just file a petition.

yeahhh i was planning for transferring fall 2011, applying this nov … i dont want to stay another year [3 yrs total by next fall]

What level of mathematics do you need? If precalc is the highest level that you need, just retake it in the fall or spring semesters and it wont interfere with your transfer. If you need calc1 then you might be able to take a precalc challenge test to get in there.

the website says i can at max retake the class once. so the option to retake it is out of the equation. what cani do?

Either you can file a petition to retake the class again or look for another college.

Hopefully someone replies to this even though this thread is old but how do you go about filing a petition to re-take a class? I am very desperate to re-take a pre-req class that I failed twice.

I don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to retake it because W’s remain on your transcript no matter what. I’m in a similar situation. Took a class; got a D in it, retook it and had to drop it with a W, and now I’m finally retaking it for a higher grade this Fall. My school allowed me to sign up for the class without any petition. In fact, I think California allows you a maximum three attempts to pass a class (that includes W’s), but some community colleges have their own set of rules. I know at OCC we can’t retake a class after two failed attempts (D/F). In my situation I didn’t pass it once when I received the D.

Find out what your college’s policy is for retaking courses. At my college you only can enroll in a class a maximum of 3 times, regardless of if you get a W or D/F. Also you have to petition for the third enrollment, which has to be approved by the head of the department. 3rd attempts rarely are approved at my college because the departments feel they have an obligation to students enrolling for the first time if the classes fill up, which always happens thanks to the state budget cuts.

If you can’t enroll in the class at your college you can enroll at a separate college. Just go on assist.org and make sure they satisfy the same transfer requirements. Be sure that the two colleges are on the same academic terms so the units are equivalent and double check with an admissions offer at the UC you want to transfer to.
