Stanford is on the quarter system fyi. This means you have the chance to explore areas beyond the premed requirements (i.e. you can spend the first two quarters of freshman year fulfilling some chem reqs and then chill out spring quarter with fuzzy classes; you would fulfill the same requirements as in Princeton or Yale, but you'll come out better-rounded.).

the chem, physics, and biology sequence required by medical school admissions takes up the whole year (autumn, winter, spring).

I was wondering what are stanford's core requirement?

Thank you Mea, that is precisely what I was getting at. I realize that my original posts may have sounded lazy... like I wanted the easy way out...

But really, this is a big decision and I simply want a little insurance :)

No matter how hard the school is, I will likely still find myself rising to the occasion...but still, this decision could potentially make or break my career path, so I am trying to take every angle into consideration.

And... for the record, I am Male :)

lol @ Tup! You didn't apply for HPME? ;)

No I did not.

I almost applied Brown PLME, but my mom said I could only apply to eigtht schools (for $$$ reasons).

And, I didn't think I could get into those programs because they are very very competitive lol.

Plus, my school counselor recommended against BA/MD programs because she said, "They are just a way for lesser-tier schools to snatch some of the high-quality students who would otherwise be going to schools like Harvard and Yale."

So I had to narrow my choices. Now, I regret not applying to such programs. I applied to too many backup schools (UC San Diego, UC Santa Barbara lol).

I guess I under-estimated myself, and wasted application money in places where it could have been better spent.

Alwell though. I am sure Yale (or maybe stanford :)) will prepare me for the MCATs, and provide me with an unforgettable undergraduate experience.

(Tupa - sorry about the gender mixup ;))

"They are just a way for lesser-tier schools to snatch some of the high-quality students who would otherwise be going to schools like Harvard and Yale."

this is true that they snatch high-quality students but it is well worth it for those high quality students to apply for them IF they are sure they want to go into medicine... and also northwestern isn't exactly that low tier

as tupa mentioned, he's looking for a little insurance and is a bit worried that it could be a bit harder at yale/prince than at stanford for premed

that's exactly why some high school students choose to apply to hpme and go to ba/md programs over top ivies such as HYPS, for that insurance and the opportunity to relax in college and not worry so much about the cut-throat competition to maintain a 3.7, 3.8 or however high GPA u need, study for several months for the MCAT, and on top of that maintain some medical-related EC's (research, volunteer)

personally if you could get into stanford, tupa, you probably had a good shot at northwestern's hpme and brown's plme... but good luck to you, i'm sure you'll be fine whereever :)
