There are some other schools that get the J. Crew discount.

BTW, what's wrong with prepiness? I actively looked for a preppy school because I think that it's important to take care of yourself and present yourself in an attractive way. It's just rude to other people to walk around looking hideous and unkempt. Personally I find it far more annoying to see somebody who hasn't brushed their hair or showered in three days walking around in a GAP t-shirt 2 sizes too big and dirty Adidas sneakers. I'd way rather see somebody in a wrinkle-free Lacoste with the collar up and clean, new Rainbows. Maybe that's just the Southerner in me talking, though.

You assume that one can't present oneself attractively without looking preppy.

Which is an asinine assumption on his/her part.

I'm sorry, we weren't defining preppy as being preoccupied with appearance? I've always sort of thought that was how it was defined 'round these parts. How exactly ARE we defining prepiness?

Speaking of asinine assumptions, isn't it a bit silly to deem an entire student body/college "preppy" because a store right across campus (yes, J.Crew) offers undergrads a student discount (that many students decline--gasp--to accept/take advantage of)??

Correct me if I am wrong.......

But Princeton is a rather preppy school... of course not everyone there is preppy but I doubt there are any colleges where that is true

you can look solid and you don't have to spend a lot of money on it -- the problem i have with kids who look preppy is that these people think appearance and being able to spend a lot of money on this appearance will make them gods among others or something -- it is kinda shallow -- like when you spend a lot of money just to buy a certain brand because you want other people to respect you more for wearing/having this brand, that's silly

Princeton - I think - tends to have an overblown reputation for preppiness. It's there, sure, but not that much more than at Harvard, Yale, or other ivies. In fact, Yale has a greater percentage of incoming students from private schools (and Yale is definitely not preppy).

That said, the reputation may stem not only from Princeton's history but also the fact that so many (~40%) of Princeton graduates go into finance. There's a very heavy Wall Street presence. Thus, the image of the purely status-conscious money-seeker seems to exist.

emory- not preppy.

Vanderbilt= preppy Emory doesn't equal preppy.

yeah, whoever put that was way off.

Supposedly Miami of Ohio is very preppy.

^ yes....it DEFINITELY is!!

i heard emory has many wealthy students who show it off, but i have not seen campus.

The J. Crew in my area offers a 10% discount to any college student. Kinda funny, im a high school student who takes post-secondary classes at a local college, but im only 16 and they asked to see my student ID...i guess i just look older than i am. Fine with me if i get 10% off though, that place is expensive...

someone wrote that Juicy Couture is preppy? I wouldn't think so. Isn't that stuff sort of princess-y?

yes. that is a good choice of (made-up) words, dke. when I think of Juicy, I think of 40-yr-old, surgically-enhanced, fake-baked-out mom in a West Palm Beach, Fla setting... walking her teeny white poodle and window shopping.

(Hah that is so extreme/not indicative of the juicy-wearing population.. but I can't shake the image).

^ lol...hahaha

When i went to visit Princeton I thought it was incredibly preppy.

Syracuse, Lafayette, Lehigh, Vandy, Florida

what about USC?
