I grew up in East Lansing and always thought that old campus was one of the most beautiful even though I went to UM (had to get out of town!). MSU started as an agricultural college and the landscaping reflect that - beautiful trees, flower gardens, fountains, etc. and the Red Cedar River running through campus. And "ivy covered halls", as the Alma Mater says. Of the campuses we've visited in my S's current search, Stanford was the favorite; the UPenn campus was also lovely.

Wisconsin-Madison is very pretty with the college campus and captial all in one.

As far as Virginia publics go, the Lawn at UVA and the Sunken Gardens area and Ancient Campus at William and Mary can't be beat as far as iconic beauty. But some of the other parts of both campuses do not compare. I think for campus-wide beauty, University of Mary Washington is commendable. True, it doesn't reach the aesthetic "peaks" of the two portions of the other campuses, but every part of the overall UMW campus has a pleasant continuity. It has been said that it looks like a college campus should look.

I personally thought UVA's campus was a let down. I went on tour this summer, and was a big let down. Some parts, like the lawn, were gorgeous but a lot of it was just... blahh.

IMO William and Mary wins over UVA.

I think the University of Vermont is also very pretty. Especially in the fall.

This is going to seem retarded, but CCNY...

Penn State...also URI has a beautiful campus

ohio univ.-athens is flat out gorgeous

If you consider Oxford and Cambridge public, definitely the grandest and the prettiest.

The Minneapolis area of the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities is gorgeous.

University of Montana-Missoula; right up there in the mountains with the river running through campus...

CITY COLLEGE! jp uhhh i would have to say Penn State

although UConn is in the middle of nowhere, the campus is insanely nice.

Thomas Jefferson himself HATED William and Mary's campus (seriously, it's documented) , that's why he designed University of Virginia.

URI was very impressive and it was great being so close to Newpot RI.

TCNJ / Delaware

come on Untitled....................both of our school's are beautiful! I think I read somewhere that Thomas Jefferson designed UVA's campus with a community and learning experience in mind. I seriously doubt that it is written ANYWHERE that Thomas Jefferson "HATED" (such a strong word) the campus of The College of Willam and Mary. In fact I love the campus of UVA and have pointed out that MAry Washington looks like a mini UVA (I KNOW it's not, but......) the same building brick and design is very clear. William and Mary's old campus is drop dead gorgeous......................stirring in it's overall beauty. You know that.

im visiting W&M in 2 weeks, let me check it out. ;)

Dude, your campus at UVA rocks but you have to give my school it's props! Check it out and I'm hoping you will retract your statement about Tommy J....................
