what are the ramifications of not going to the school that you're suppose to go to?

Hello, I paid a deposit for a school in April thinking I will be able to afford it, but the official financial aid award just came and for some reasons my aid is significantly lower than what it was on my preliminary estimate. Sadly, I won't be able to afford and thus i can't attend. So im probably going to go to a community college nearby, but my question is will my college charge me anything for not attending there? I've already registered for classes, been assigned a dorm and roommate, and completed my housing contract if that matters.

You should officially withdraw before the start of classes.

especially if you’re in line for any Federal grants. The college will only charge you the deposit. Once classes start, they can begin to charge you more.

Did you call and ask them why the number is lower than the estimate? Why not ask? And if they can’t change anything, ask them what the process is for you to withdraw since it is now unaffordable.
