Which UC has the best premed program?

UMMM I just went through this decision.... Well of all the UC's the best are UCSD, UCLA, and Berkeley. Berkeley has the best chemistry program and is the number one public university in the country. However, in my opinion I think UCSD also has a good pre-med program. However, I think it depends on what you want in a college... because they are all good. But in the end I would probably choose Berkeley.

Berkeley, for sure. The chemistry dept. at Berkeley is ranked #1 in the nation. i think about 15 elements on the periodic table were found at Berkeley. Berkeley also has close ties with UCSF( probably the best med school in the state).

Undergrad college has little influence on med school applications, or so I've been told by 193943 pre-meds and 3 admissions officers. If you go to UCB and pull a 3.1, while you put in the same amount of work for a 3.6 at UCI -- you're EXTREMELY limited with the 3.1 GPA, but a 3.6 GPA is competitive. You gotta learn to play the game.

Does UCSD have the best science and math department in the UC system? How does the engineering program fare?

Berkeley math >> UCSD math. Berkeley's math is strong enough to compete with the likes of Harvard and Princeton.

Does anyone have a detailed chart of med schools that UCSD grads have been accepted to?

Here's the link to Berkeley's:
http://career.berkeley.edu/MedStats/top20.stm

well, www.mdapplicants.com or something like that has a list of who got to what stage with what stats at different med schools.

Also, I don't think your question, either "What are the rankings of the UC's premed program?" or "Which UC has the best premed program?" make any answerable sense in their current form.

the 'best' premed program is the one in which you earn the highest gpa and learn enough to ace the mcat. ALL of the UCs are strong in the basic premed requirements.

Quirkily, Harvard and Princeton don't have stunning math programs, so I don't think a comparison is valid. Harvey Mudd and MIT have significantly better math programs than any Ivy.

They might disagree, as might many mathematicians. Perhaps they aren't the best in general or in some areas, but I think they're pretty amazing overall, near the best, merely right below them.

shrug If you say so. I think the difference between the best and the right below the best are pretty insignificant a lot of the time, and I don't know if Caltech, Stanford, or other schools would claim better departments.

See, the thing with UCLA is that it's pretty much a "Jack of all trades" school. It excels at everything, but its not the best at anything.

i want to go premed but they do not have that program at ucsb...what should i do?

What it measn to be pre-med is to declare that you're going to medical school. Most students take all the required classes of the medical schools that require the most classes and the MCAT. This includes physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, and an English or writing based course. That is what it really means to be pre-med. If your school has the minimum number of classes, it can host pre-meds.
