mom2collegekids: i believe my parents and I aren’t willing to pay more than 25,000 for undergrad - I’d rather not dig myself into a hole of debt just yet - we’ll save that for grad school

I have a chance to take the SAT three more times, which I plan on doing

To my knowledge, Shreyer’s doesn’t look at SATs because they feel it does not accurately represent a student’s abilities, and in the grand scheme of things, unimportant - an ideology I wholeheartedly agree with. On their website they say that:
“Those who follow College Confidential threads know that there has been some discussion about our admission process and, specifically, our statement that we do not consider SAT scores in evaluating applicants for the Schreyer Honors Colleges incoming class. It is important to note that this is NOT a change of practice here in the Honors College. It is true that, prior to this current application cycle, we have noted an average SAT score which gave potential students an idea of the caliber of previously admitted Scholars. But since at least the year 2000, individual SAT scores have not been made available to the faculty members who read and review the transcripts, essays, and letters of recommendation submitted by each applicant.”

Instead, Schreyer’s looks at grades, letters of recommendation, and 3 personal essays - its tough because they are not always the typical “college admissions essays” (ie - describe an event that has impacted your life, blah blah) , but rather more developed and thoughtful (ie - Should traditional notions of ownership apply to digital (and digitized) works?)

and based on the comments here, I think I will definitely look into Macauley, thank you
