What are UM dorms like?

How about the sophomore dorms? How do those compare? I’ve seen pictures of university village - those look very nice.

The UV is for people who have > 60 credit hours. It is really nice, but it’s also quite expensive, relative to the other dorms.

Some time over the next few days I’ll try to drop by a friend’s room in Mahoney & Pearson (for Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors who don’t want to live in the UV) and take some pictures to post.

@ranknir - ohhhhh! I thought the rectangles at the bottom of the diagram were the beds! With the blankets ‘turned down’!!!

what do the diagonal lines represent?

So the rectangle with the chair is the desk, then the small rectangle is a dresser, and the narrow rectangles at the top of the diagram are the beds.

Is that right?

So I think the confusion stems from the fact that there are two holes in the wall which can be interpreted as doors… so I’ve uploaded a picture with the parts labeled to http://robrankin.com/roomdia.jpg

@rankinr - you did a good deed today. That was very very good of you, to take the time to help me understand what-is-what.

I thought the door was the window, and the window was the door. The diagram makes a lot more sense to me now. Sorry I was being simple-minded on this; fortunately, I’m not the student.

Make sure you go to post #7 of this thread and click on the “Bad Dorms” link. There you will find in post #23 pictures of my daughter’s room in Stanford. It shows how it looks with a loft and how much nicer it looks once decorated.

The windows are kinda ugly because they have the heavy duty hurricane shutters on them. We were able to make them look tons better with just a small pressure rod and a one panel sheer we got at Target.
