Not sure if this is the case everywhere, but at my undergrad and grad school, independent study is pretty much research.

First Year Seminar: Battling Against Voldemort

(no joke–I didn’t take it but it was offered both semesters this year)

^^ seriously? what books did you read?? I bet that it was the cheapest class in terms of books LOL

Econ and World Politics

Although, I’ve only taken 6 classes so far

Beginner Japanese 101 and 102–I love my sensei (teacher)! She is so nice and makes learning Japanese fun.

こんいちわ!
Which books did you use for your Japanese class? I’m reading the Japanese for Busy People I book now, but I think they use the Genki series at the college I will be attending next year. I’m looking for a tutor in the meanwhile so I can improve my conversational skills. I’d like to do a study abroad for a year, are you planning on doing one as well?

いつてうつしやい
ありがとございます

Abstract Algebra
Operating Systems
Philosophy class on Hegel’s the science of logic

poetry class.

ticklemepink: the reading list includes a lot of stuff, actually–Campbell, Frazer, Jung, plus the seventh Harry Potter (it being assumed that you’d already read the others), the Lord of the Rings trilogy, His Dark Materials, Paradise Lost, Garth Nix, etc.
I think it was only cheaper than any other English class because many people owned half the assigned reading already!

Rites of Passage in Antiquity
Japanese! (We used Genki)

Acting
Chinese Civilization
Short story writing

I’m a believer in picking the class because of the professor, not the material, but I loved these:

Shakespeare: The Later Plays
Into to Afro-American Studies
Abnormal Psychology
Creative Nonfiction
and Japanese :)

We used Jorden-sensee’s materials at both the colleges where I studied Japanese.

世の中狭いですね!
(十文字)w

My choices are a bit biased because I’m a neuroscience major… but my favorites so far have been Psychobiology and Abnormal Psychology.

I also really loved my intro International Affairs course.

Pistolen08,

At the college I’m attending, we are using Yookoso!: An Invitation to Contemporary Japanese. And yes, I am thinking of studying abroad in my junior year. I want to go to Japan so bad!
