What are you bringing to open house?

besides pillow and sleeping bag, and change of clothes. are they providing us with bathroom-type stuff?

I highly doubt it. They didn't do that for the open house in the fall. I'd bring my own towels and toiletries and everything else I need. It's not like a hotel where they'd provide you with shampoo and stuff.

At her visits, my D brought her clothes & toiletries. The way she was traveling, not even a pillow was doable. It was no problem. Certainly, if you're within driving distance, bringing a pillow and towels makes it less likely that you have to rely upon the kindness of strangers but if you can't, don't sweat it. Plus it's a great way to check out how your possible future peers respond to someone in need.

yeah, i'm wondering how i'm going to take a pillow with me on a plane...i guess i won't

No problem. My D takes a carry-on, her purse, and carries her jacket and pillow which she uses in her seat. She has done 2 overnights this way, and no airline has turned her down or said a word. By all means, bring those sample bottles of shampoo, etc., and flip flops for the shower. and towels. I wouldn't worry about a blow dryer - for sure your host will have one.
